can i capture sound from external player on my pc using line in jack

Don't know about fc-2 specifically. But I capture sound from LPs onto the HD using the line-in jack to the soundcard.

I use SuSE.

i'm trying to do the same... i use krecord, and when i plug my LP to the line-in i can listen to it from the pc speakers, but i still can't record it. it looks like the sound goes directly from the line-in to the speakers...
what do you use for recording seagull?

Any audio software that allows you to record will allow you to "capture" audio from the line-in port. KRecord should work fine, if you need more functionality you might look at Audacity.

I believe FC2 uses ALSA, if you can't record go here and find your sound card, see if recording is supported. If it is your mixer settings are probably wrong (maybe the recording level for line-in is muted). GNOME ALSA Mixer is a pretty straightforward way to adjust your mixer levels and if you have ever used the Windows Volume control it is quite similar. Hope this helps.

I can't reach the GNOME ALSA Mixer page, I guess I should have checked before linking to it . There is also kamix which is essentially the same thing, and the link works .

Depending on the sound card. You need to make sure you select which input will be used for capture. You may have to select the capture mixer too. On some sound cards you can adjust ADC and DAC, so for those make sure they are at 100%. Then adjust the capture mixture. Also you will need to adjust Line In. Use "arecord -vv" to make sure the source is not overloading or distoring the mixer.

For LP, you may want to start low and increase the capture mixer until it barely hits around 95%.

Use alsamixer because it is more reliable than GUI mixers.

Use Audacity because it is very efficient for long recordings.

Use shielded audio cable to decrease distortion.

i have installed alsa also it is showing up on my volume controls but the biggest problem is taht how do i go about using it.....i mean like what all sounds i have to enable etc....

there is no gui to captre sound but then how do i go about it,....
