Hi all,
I'm a complete newbie to linux and am trying to learn as I go along. Any help here would be appreciated, as I'm about to give up!
I have two issues I'd appreciate help with:
1) I don't know which version of rpms I need as I dont know what category my system falls under. I have an AMD XP 2500, 512 Ram with Suse 9.1 Personal installed on it. I've read this architecture is K6 or K7 but I only ever find rpms for i386, i586, sparc64 and a whole host others. Which alternatives would work on my system?
2) Say there are no alternatives, I assume I need to download the source and compile it on my system. Suse 9.1 doesn't have a compiler included with it. So I've tried to download that too but haven't found a K7 version, so I guess I need a compiler to compile the compiler source! Vicious circle. I've tried version ix86-suse9.1 but that claimed my architecture was the wrong type. So which version rpm should I download and where can i download it from?!
Help..............
