Soccer game in mexico, Osama

I heard on the radio earlier today that mexican citizens were booing the US team and chanting Osama at a soccer game being held in Mexico between Canada and the U.S. Has anyone else heard of this. Considering the US has bailed out mexico 2 times due to 2 economic problems they were having and US companies employ many mexican citizens, that sound a little cheap and classless if its true.

the us employs way too many of the mexican citizens.

they live in the us but arent residents, are illegal, cant speak the language, and we pay taxes for their healthcare.

i knew amaerica was the land of opportutinty, but we are paying alot of taxes, then the government gives that to illegal fugitives.

just dont seem right to me.

I see no mention of anything like that in the news forums I just searched. Maybe just a rumor.

Erm, I don't suppose it's because both the US and Canadian teams are crap? Or possibly because the local Mex population aren't very original when it comes to "chant's"? Or just opportunist?

I.E. When my local team, Brighton and Hove Albion (aka the seagulls) recently played Plymouth Argyle (aka the pasty boys), we beat them 2-1, and couldn't resist a couple of choruses of "Stick your pasties, Stick your pasties, Stick your pasties up your arse. Stick your pasties up your arse". As I say, opportunist tribalism at it's worst.

John

Wow questionasker - I guess slagging off an entire country because a few people say something stupid is not much of a nationalist perspective. I should also remind you that if by "the language" you mean English, you are wrong. The USA has no de jure official language. In fact, more US citizens speak Castilian than English.

1.) The U.S. does not help countries out because they're nice and compassionate. Just look at my signature which quotes the man who supposedly "singlehandedly defeated the Nazis" and who introduced the Marshall Plan to "feed the poor war-weary Europeans".

2.) You can blame your government for not declaring English as the only official language. English may be used in almost all government communication, but Spanish is just as "official" as English is, so you can't complain about them not speaking the "official" language of America. Que más hispánicos vengan popular E.U.!

3.) The term "Castilian" is only used in Spain so that Euskarians, Catalonians, and Galicians don't get offended by calling all of their languages "Spanish". Outside of Europe, there are no Catalan, Euskarian, or Galician countries so fuera de Espana el idioma es conocido como "el español". In fact, people refer to Castilian Spanish as the "Spanish" dialect spoken in Spain, and "Latin American Spanish" as a term encompassing all Western Hemisphere dialects of Spanish. So technically, the only Castilian speakers in North America are Spanish expatriates.

4.) Only around 18% of the American population speaks Spanish, which is even less than the 22% of Canadians who speak French (mostly in Québec). It's sad that although Hispanics are a majority in the Southwestern U.S.A. (southern California, Arizona, Texas, Nuevo México), whites still make all the decisions. I hope there is another Quiet Revolution.

vincebs, You sure want to get flamed dont you. Truman knew the threat that germany posed and also foresaw the threat that Russia would pose in the futere, so your attempt at demeaning america has failed. What language would you be speaking if Germany or Russia took over half the world? You people with your extreme political ideology are getting really cliche and embarrassing.

If you look at any set of official figures you'll see that the most widely spoken language by far in America is English - Spanish comes in a poor second with 10,s of millions less speakers than English.

Also, if vincebs went to Spain, I'd suggest that he take a "mirror torch", because while I don't find any offence in the above quote, there's a rather "vocal minority" who would, and he'd have to make sure that they didn't plant a bomb under his car.

The vocal minority, are small and relatively unknown - erm, Basque's. And their very own "naughty people" are usually known by the acronym ETA!

just a thought!

John

when you start yet another thread based on politics, race or whatever(if there's a real reason for starting it), could you first use some base, research and real facts? Because at each and every new thread you point out in a way that US is right and all the rest is wrong or should thank US for this, or for that. Funny that the americans are so manipulated by the government that they still believe that every single country needs US when it's pretty much the other way around...

Note: I'm generalizing here, and I know it's wrong. But it's pretty much what BajaNick did, not all Americans are nice peoples, not all Afghanistan's are bad, not all Mexicans works in the US...

He did, but wishing for the deaths of millions is not exactly championing democracy and human rights.

I am not being extremist. It's all relative. You on the extreme right view me, someone in the center, as communist. Most Canadians, being extremely liberal, actually consider me a right-wing America-lover. Whereas you might consider yourself to be simply a God-fearing patriotic conservative, you seem a little fascist to me.

Do you not think that your extreme flag-waving, "America lovingly gives peace, prosperity, freedom and democracy" views are not cliché to some of us?

That was so funny, all the Mexican soccer fans chanting "Osama, Osama".
Ha, Ha, over 3,000 people dead. Ho-ho, suddenly fatherless, motherless children, because a highly regarded muslim wants to strike a blow against capitalism. Hee, hee, I got an idea: if Mexico plays soccer against Israel, all the Mexican fans can shout "HITLER, HITLER" , that would be a knee slapper. Class act, you Mexican soccer fans, CLASS ACT.
Oh, by the way, this was the SECOND match between these two teams, where the "OSAMA" chant was heard, and what do Americans do? Corporations send JOBS to Mexico, and the rest of us are learning spanish, so we can communicate with our new co-workers. Have a wonderful day.
