Xorg nouveau installation issues

To install the nvidia driver I used emerge by setting the video card in /etc/make.conf to nvidia and running emerge -avDN world.

startx works fine but starting kde doesn't. It auto logs in, a wallpaper and mouse appear, but plasma-desktop won't start. Starting plasma-desktop manually gives me either:

Cannot find the D-Bus session server:  "Unable to autolaunch a dbus-daemon without a $DISPLAY for X11"

Invalid D-BUS interface name "org.kde.plasma-desktop.PlasmaApp"

Are the dbus and consolekit services running and do you have such USEs set in make.conf globally?

Nevermind. I was replying to a post on page 1, but it looks like you've gotten beyond that point.

Yes, dbus and consolekit are running and both of them are in make.conf.
