Code:
## DEFINE DIT ROOT/BASE/SUFFIX ####
## uses RFC 2377 format
## replace example and com as necessary below
## or for experimentation leave as is

## dcObject is an AUXILLIARY objectclass and MUST
## have a STRUCTURAL objectclass (organization in this case)
# this is an ENTRY sequence and is preceded by a BLANK line

# Organization for PacifcCabinets, Inc
dn: dc=pacificcabinets,dc=com
objectclass: dcObject
objectclass: organization
o: Pacific Cabinets, Inc

Looks like you forgot the closing ":
Code:
ldapadd -x -D "cn=Manager,dc=pacificcabinets,dc=com" -W -f root.ldif
EDIT: Just noticed: You also need an empty last line in your root.ldif file.

druuna, Thank you for your assistance it worked with the minor modification to my root.ldif and a minor fix in my slapd.conf file as well. Onward and upward now for the People and the Groups.

Code:
tux tmp # ldapadd -x -D "cn=Manager,dc=pacificcabinets,dc=com" -W -f root.ldif
Enter LDAP Password:
adding new entry "dc=pacificcabinets,dc=com"
