Hello together,

I'm new to Gentoo and had this issue some days ago. I "accidentally" installed hal and was suprised that keyboard and mouse didn't work with X11.
When I read the xorg-logfile I found an entry about "AllowEmptyInput" which is used in the xorg.conf to enable using both, hal and the xorg.conf file. But there wasn't such an entry in my xorg.conf....
I added
Code:
Option "AllowEmptyInput" "FALSE"
to my xorg.conf and this worked for me.
Meanwhile I copied the fdi-files into the /etc/hal directory (as described above) and use hal, which is the better choice since one can use a much more elaborate configuration for a touchpad.
I think the problem is really, that when hal is installed there is this entry "AllowEmptyInput" created anywhere in the system. This disables keybord and mouse in xorg.conf, but this happens independent if hal is really started or if the necessary files are copied to /etc/hal.

Surely not the same case. However I advice about any ricer tips to speed up your machine 10x, only new hardware can do that, and remember always that devs are not bad guys that do things intentionally to prevent your system from working at full speed. If something is not set by default most likely there's a reason.
