Microphone not working (Skype) - Splitting Sound via Headphones and Speakers
 

I'm currently on my laptop at University but i've been attempting to fix this problem for a while (talking about my desktop at home, I won't be able to provide much information at the moment, but maybe somebody can give me a couple of tips that I can attempt when I get back).

I'm running Openbox and have ALSA and the skype beta installed. I can hear sound yet the microphone itself does not function. Basically I have two sockets on my computer for a microphone (Front / Back) and i'm placing the microphone in the front. Does ALSA have seperate settings for both sockets? (I have basically no bloody clue about ALSA). Last attempt with pulseaudio ended up with no sound coming from my system nor the microphone working; took a while for pulseaudio to give me sound but the microphone never worked.

It doesnt work here on Crunchbang either which is also using ALSA. I've tried to follow various guides but none of them worked. What settings do I need to have activated in ALSA? What programs should I emerge to help set it up? Should I be using pulse audio? (I wish to later use skype over headphones, music over boxes - If I remember correctly ALSA can't rly split both at the same time?

I think its an Intel integrated soundcard; I also remember compiling it into the kernel (cant remember if module) but ALSA finds it.

Now I better start listening to the lecture *lol*
