gentoo. No space.

Hello.
I want to install gentoo using a minimal CD, but when I'm using cfdisk to make partitions, I can see that there are only 85mb free space and I can't delete anything. I have 146Gb on my laptop, but how do I delete the hardisk so there are 146 Gb free space???

A quick and easy way to delete the partition table on a hard disk is to use dd. I'm not sure if the gentoo CD has a command line, but if it does try this command:

dd if=/dev/zero bs=512 count=1 of=/dev/<hard drive device>

Replace the <hard drive device> with the device of your drive, usually hda for ide and sda for scsi.

This will zero out your mbr thus getting rid of the partition table. Once you reboot the drive should appear empty to fdisk.

I tried and the computer says:

1+0 records in
1+0 records out
512 bytes (513 B) copied

and later it writes:
hda: command error: status=0x51 .......
