Firefox not restarting or crashing on close

This might seem like a nit-pick, since it works fine otherwise, but this is getting to me.
If I close Firefox, it appears to shut down just fine. Until next run, where it's just like it had crashed, offering to restore the last tab set.
Restarting is similar - except Firefox never re-launches. It just closes down.

I thought maybe running it from the terminal might solve the problem, but instead I get a backtrace... which means absolutely nothing to me. If you want to try and decipher it, have a look here: http://pastie.org/2125802

This Firefox is running on a 32-bit Gentoo Linux, compiled with the 'debug' USE flag, and without the 'custom-optimisation' flag (as it's not safe, AFAIK).

Tried running it in safe-mode to eliminate any addon induced problems, but unfortunately no difference in the slightest.
I know, it's a small thing really.

Hi there,

Can you please let us know the version of Firefox that you are running?

Did you try launching firefox using different user account? It might be possible that there is something wrong with your current user profile which is causing this issue.

Try disabling extensions and plug-ins under EDIT | PREFERENCES | MANAGE ADD-ONS

Running 4.0.1.
Since I'm the only user on the laptop, I can't run with a different account. But removing the .mozilla directory (and keeping a backup so I can restore it) to give a fresh profile also makes no difference.

I thought that was what safe-mode was for - running without any extensions and addons at all. It seems kind of extraneous to disable them each in turn if none of them are the cause...

Try this:

Open up Firefox and in the address bar type: about:config

Look for the following two settings:

browser.sessionstore.privacy_level

browser.sessionstore.privacy_level_deferred

Change their value to 2 and restart firefox and see if that works.

Once again, no difference - restarting does not relaunch Firefox, and in either case launching it still brings up the Session Restore page.

Alright, I did some searching and from this link: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/que...#answer-150383 it appears that it is working as per design.

They have enabled this feature to save your browsing time (To restore the session from where you left)
