Firefox error dumping to syslog with high CPU and mem usage

Okay, first off I am running kernel 3.4.9, with openbox and syslog-ng. I have had no similar issues to this one prior to a few days ago. My most recent update included FF17 but this issue was occuring prior to that update. I have no idea what happened to my machine, but recently FF has been flooding my syslog with the following:

dmesg dump:
Code:

This repeats until I close FF. Does anyone know what this is referring to? I suspect it is something to do with networking, possibly with iptables? Any guidance is appreciated. Thanks.

Looks like you have a bug there and is related to sound, maybe something with plugins, or driver, maybe something in the kernel. Did you compile the kernel yourself? Anything in dmesg that doesn't looks right?

Regards

Yes, the kernel was compiled myself with the help of menuconfig.

This is odd, according to this fourm, I shouldn't even have/need NUMA on my system. After further research into Non-Uniform Memory Access I have decided to disable NUMA in my kernel, fingers crossed...

Not sure on this one either. My research turns up that this is required to support +3GB memory in systems that have 32bit PCI devices which do not support Double Access Cycle. It also hints that this helps the system detect sneaky kernel-bugs and misbehaving drivers. I will keep this for now, even though it looks like my system disables it.

Looks like my devices loaded correctly and the initramfs starts up fine

Code:

[    1.164313] mtrr: type mismatch for d0000000,10000000 old: write-back new: write-combining
[    1.164419] [drm] MTRR allocation failed.  Graphics performance may suffer.

This error is unwarranted from what I have found. My system uses PAC to manage and apparently this "warning" has been showing up in people's logs since 2008 with no apparent degradation to their systems.

Then this pops up randomly. I was running FF playing video and audio trying to get the same results. This time only 1 error message posted to the log.

Back to normal business.

Ok some things you can for sure disable in the kernel:
Code:

[    0.000000] No NUMA configuration found
and
Code:

[    0.000000] Checking aperture...
[    0.000000] No AGP bridge found
[    0.000000] Calgary: detecting Calgary via BIOS EBDA area
[    0.000000] Calgary: Unable to locate Rio Grande table in EBDA - bailing!

Those aren't present in your hardware.
You do have a modern hardware with PCIe BUS, AGP is long gone.

I would also take a look into this and fix it:
Code:

[    2.441680] ACPI Warning: 0x000000000000f040-0x000000000000f05f SystemIO conflicts with Region \_SB_.PCI0.SBUS.SMBI 1 (20120320/utaddress-251)
[    2.442530] ACPI: If an ACPI driver is available for this device, you should use it instead of the native driver

Now back to the main problem:

So memory allocation and logs are the issue here, don't forget FF17 is beta version and may have some things to be fixed still. Did you compile it as well? If yes, maybe recompile it without logs, disable it.

Do as well check this out since they are showing some issues:
Code:

[    0.542898] [Firmware Bug]: ACPI: BIOS _OSI(Linux) query ignored
Code:

[    1.164313] mtrr: type mismatch for d0000000,10000000 old: write-back new: write-combining
[    1.164419] [drm] MTRR allocation failed.  Graphics performance may suffer.

Code:

[    1.165894] [drm:intel_dsm_platform_mux_info] *ERROR* MUX INFO call failed
[    2.157508] [Firmware Bug]: ACPI(PEGP) defines _DOD but not _DOS

This are the things I can see so far, also take a look in the FF17 news and here.

Regards

I am currently using Firefox 17, but I'm using the firefox-bin package. Maybe you enabled something in your USE flags that the bin version doesn't have?

To me your error looks related to the network stack not sound card drivers. Another guess would be maybe you updated your kernel recently and a newer r8169 module is giving you problems? Do you experience the same errors with other networking functions like ping for example?
