emerge kdebase-startkde-3.5 not kde4

I am stuck. I can see the packages in the portage tree but it won't let me install them. I tried installing single packages which worked, except I just wound up in a big mess. reinstalled and am now looking for a little direction.

thanks

Post your make.conf... just to have a look.

An easy command to emerge KDE 3.5 is:

Code:
emerge -avN kdebase-startkde:3.5

Thanks for the answer but I already got it.
I put the kde-4.* package names into /etc/portage/package.mask
and got what I wanted.
Thanks allot for trying to help!
I appreciate it.
