Compiling kernel on gentoo

Hello. I'm having an issue on kernel compilation. I'm using a ppc64 device (SONY PS3). I'm trying kernel 2.6.32 by emerging gentoo-sources. I did make ps3_defconfig and added a few drivers.

I did compile gentoo-sources, everything is cool. I did:

make && make install_modules

then copy my kernel and update /etc/kboot.conf

on reboot, I get:

Seems like the kernel isn't able to read the root partition, since /lib/modules/2.6.32-gentoo-r1/modules.dep is present and it's valid.

And that's strange, since I also get:

My question is: is the kernel seeing the hard disk or not? How can I fix this problem?

Hello NoWone,

I think it is not a good idea to compile the driver for the bootdisk as a module.
Otherwise, maybe this is not the real problem....
Which bootloader are you using? I'm using lilo and since I have to execute lilo after recompiling the kernel I get an errormessage from lilo if there is a mistake in the configuration of the boot or root device.
Normally the devices on my machines are /dev/hd... or /dev/sd...

I'd recommend to post the configurationfile for your bootloader.
