youtube won't recognize my mobile phone number.

Hi:
Forgive me for being so stupid. I want to sign up (register) in www.youtube.com and they ask me for a mobile phone number to send me a text message. I begin the phone number with the prefix 15, which in my country is used for all cellular phones (which I think is the same as a mobile phone). However, they reply with the following message:
Code:

This phone number format is not recognized. Please check the country and number.
Any hint would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

They may not recognize country codes comes to mind, but easier way is just sign up for a gmail account and login using that... (to login to youtube)

When did youtube start demanding a phone number? Nosy gits. I registered a good few years ago and am pretty sure I never had to do that. Many people want to keep their "web life" somewhat separate from their "real life". Any site other than a shopping site that demands (as opposed to merely requests) my phone number for me to register is one I will not be registering with).

It was yesterday. I also was annoyed by this demand. But as I had never before seen the posibility of hearing so much music for free, except for the lengthly process of downloading .FLAC files, etc, I gave them the number, although they didn't called. What's a nosy git? Thanks for your reply.

Enrique.
