I want a 13" LED-LCD laptop (maybe 14") with 1440x900 resolution that is lightweight, has great battery life, matte screen, silver magnesium alloy chasis, 8 GB DDR3 1066 MHz RAM, Intel i7 640m CPU, Intel HD GPU (No NVIDIA, ATI or switchable graphics), Intel Ethernet NIC, Intel Ultimate-N 6300 wireless, Intel audio and an Intel X-25M 160GB SSD. I want it to have a spill-draining (like Lenovo) backlit chiclet-style keyboard, good loud speakers, 2 MP webcam, a DVD +/- RW slot loading drive, a big touchpad with two finger scrolling and nice buttons, no fingercrap readers, no modems, no Intel vPro management, no TCG TPM. Also, I'd like it to have a pewter Arch logo on the lid and a Arch logo instead of the Windows flag on the 'superkey'. I'd like an external battery life indicator and an external on/sleep indicator like on the MacBook Pros, and no stupid pointless LEDs (Like WiFi, Bluetooth). I want the keyboard to have an AltGr key to be used as a compose key. The design should be straightforward and symmetrical. Internally, I'd like the logic board and screen to be in 2 roll cages and 4 small shock-mounted rubber guards internally protecting the corners. An SD card reader, HDMI, VGA, 3 USB, magnetic power connection/connector, Kensington lock slot, eSATA and headphone port. The lid should close with a firm metal mechanical latch.
I want it pre-installed with Arch Linux with GNOME set to boot with runlevel 5, a static kernel thinned up, with the I/O elevator set to noop, the ext4 FS on / only, with no swap and noatime and the /tmp set in the fstab to be in RAM. I want compiz setup with lots of fancy effects, LibreOffice, VLC, branded Firefox with cache set in RAM, branded Thunderbird, Adobe Flash and Reader installed, Konsole (with tab UI, transparent black backgorund, and green text), and Gedit. I want the log on name to be pwnsauce and the host name to be ultibox. I want a a flashy Beryl theme that is transparent and black combined with a GTK theme that is just black with white text and blue accents. A space background, different on all 4 virtual desktops if possible. I'd like Pokerstars to be in WINE and fully working. Fonts should be setup to look simple and smooth.
I want the palmrest signed by Linus Torvalds on the right side and an Intel i7 sticker and a Tux laptop OS sticker on the left. I want his name covered with a protective coating, and then the whole chasis covered with an oleophobic coating.
I want an included screwdriver to open it up anytime I want and a parodied Windows OS serial number sticker on the bottom with Tux eating the Windows flag, and it to say G̶e̶n̶u̶i̶n̶e̶ ̶M̶i̶c̶r̶o̶s̶o̶f̶t̶ ̶s̶o̶f̶t̶w̶a̶r̶e̶ with the serial number to be 4e:6f:20:4d:53:20:68:65:72:65 (hex for 'No MS here').
Hehe, wow. That'd be absolutely awesome (for me!). Oh, please, great Santa?

If I may ask, why do you have a preference against NVIDIA or ATI graphics? It is just because you need closed-source drivers to get their full functionality? Or is it an issue of being able to afford it? (discrete GPUs are typically more expensive)

jiml8 where is that place ? I don't have dirt bike.
Anisha Kaul Well I can see your experience in your words. Troubleshooting Desktop/Server/Laptop with Unix/Linux is not a big deal. Troubleshooting life with wife is a big challenge. lol...
tiredofbilkyyaforallican Almost my country is like that(what I mentioned in my previous post) before 20Yrs ago. But now its very dirty and fully polluted. Can't walk in the pathway, even bike riders are there with durrr durrrrrr sound and pammm pammmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm horn.
Troubleshooting husbands is much harder than landing on Mars! So technology has grown much, if we troubleshooted husbands, its easier to land in mars :P
Hi Anisha Kaul cool down. May this 2011 would be a trouble free year for your marriage life
I didn't mean wife is a problem. Its a happiest moment where each other understand and starting their life. Unfortunately some times husband fails to listen wife's word. There problem starts and husband should troubleshoot it(Should listen to wife).
Not every time problem comes, only some time's when we didn't configured it properly.
Other wise marriage is a wonderful part in our life. Once again Marry Christmas to everyone.
Troubleshooting husbands is much harder than landing on Mars!
Troubleshooting wives is impossible due to complexity and tangled logic.
Troubleshooting husbands is trivial. Husbands need three things; sex, food, and approval. If the husband malfunctions, check for lack of one or more of the three, or check for corruption in one or more of the three.
I'm afraid not Dear Santa. -R DL does not have a very good compatibility rate on DVD Players, plus when burning movies the first layer (L0) sometimes is not fully utilized and on -R DL discs, the first layer must be filled up entirely, so you cannot arbitrarily set the layer break.
Essentially -R DL is suitable only for data.
And there's a nice thing that I didn't know! (Always learning.)
Thank you!
But Santa may be from the oldschool and offer just a tape of
"The best christmas songs of all time!"
Or do you want a Blu-ray Disc? (kidding!)
Thanks for posting requests(Santa's bag is at 40%, you can still request something) and for the other posts too!

Well for getting sex and approval, husbands need to lend an ear to their wives when they need them, and can someone tell these husbands that sex and love are not the synonyms of each other!

So you noticed finally People used to refer to me as him/his etc. so I PMed the "root" to change my user name so that it could be read as a proper girlie name!
The one thing I would *NEVER* want for Christmas is proprietary software (which is the only type of software you have to pay for), so that's out of the question.
While I would like to have better clothes (ones that are popular today, not outdated), my mother is a Macy's employee, so I'm sure she will get me clothes without me asking (like my family always has).
Games are again proprietary software (especially if you have to pay for them), so they're no-goes.
I already did get some other things that I wanted from my friends, such as the Can't Be Tamed album by Miley Cyrus (which is the only thing that falls into the "Other" category I really wanted), so technically that category has already been accounted for.
Which leaves me with one more issue: hardware. My desktop is in desperate need of repair: a new video card, a new MB, a new CPU -- basically a new everything. That's why I voted there.
