Xbox 360

All i can say is wow.....now all we need to do is hack it so Linux can run on it and then load up some Doom 3 mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm......

AlexV 05-12-2005 10:57 PM

No! Don't buy it! All of the XBox profits go straight into funding Microsoft's invasion of the consumer electronics market. Bill Gates very much wants to see the day when everying in our homes is controlled by Windows (see The Road Ahead ). That scares me to death :(

jaz 05-12-2005 11:01 PM

Im looking forward to it. I dont care what MS is doing to be honest. I wish I did but then I'd have to care what every major corporation is doing and refuse to buy what they sell. So give me my Linux and give me my XBOX!!

That's true, let's give all our cash to Sony, so they (Japanese developers) can keep pushing crappy, dated hardware (as PS2) and non-innovative games that we've all played over and over again (Final Fantasy, for example, same crappy turn-based system since the very first version. Good job Square, you surely have good artists, but that's it. Repetive story, where you _always_ start playing as a tough guy, who eventually becomes the "hero" and save us all. Don't even get me started with the music, it's also the same since FFI with better quality ;)).

What truly "scares me to death" is opinions like this. Basically, what you are saying is "It's OK to other companies to monopolize the market, but not Microsoft". Sony has crashed Sega and made a good console (N64) to be overlooked with their awful underpowered, the Sony PSone.

I'd say, buy the next gen consoles by it's games and capabilities. Just avoiding something because of the company behind it is well.... :\. I use Linux because it is a superior OS for now, but if somebody else makes the next best thing, you bet I will be using it, regardless who is behind it...

Let us not forget Sony's attempt to make their standards the only ones, memory sticks (with slots on anythign from sony) minidiscs, and now Universal Media Disc or UMD for short. Hell if it were up to sony everything would be built into a TV in our living room. I dislike sony alot.

THANK YOU! I was waiting for a PS2 fanboy to pop up and I've found somebody else who also dislikes Sony. This day is shaping up pretty good ;)

The day I buy a M$ product is the day that they truly support open standards, open source, and stop talking BS...

In other words,... never.

I'll go to boardgames on cardboard with plastic dice before I get a Retch-Box...

I can't stand M$, their lies, their tactics, or their buggy, standard breaking products. I consider Sony to be the lesser of two evils...

What? When did I mention Sony? I was protesting XBox, not promoting anyone else

He is referring to how ironic it is that people single out Xbox simply because MS made it and neglect the fact that sony seems to be just as bad (if not worse in my eyes)

Well, in that case, I agree. Monopolies are bad in any market. Microsoft is simply worse because they already have a stranglehold on the OS market, and now they're branching out into consumer electronics. I just wish the anti-trust regulators had split MS up when they had the chance...

Except the entertainment market is actually pretty saturated while the OS market was not when MS came into it. I doubt we shall see a monopoly there. Like I said if anything I would worry about Sony in that market.

Mega Man X 05-13-2005 05:00 PM

Thanks for the help stabile007. You've clarified my point better then I could ever do :).

I know monopolies are evil, but if the majority of users/customers are happy with the product they offer, it's not all that bad. MS is arguable a monopoly and, although I think Windows is horrible, a few things are quite good, as Visual Studio or DirectX. Usually peoples using Visual Studio and DirectX are quite happy with them. Many peoples seems to be unhappy with Windows, because the security (or lack of it) and malware. But they are either uninformed about alternatives or afraid to try them. That's very, very bad.

Now, even though my favorite character is Rockman X (Japanese) and I love watch Dragonball (Japanese) and love to listen to Japanese music and like japanese peoples (love Japanese girls, but I'm married with a Swedish blond one, can't complain ;)), I've seen very few innovative games coming from Japan lately since Sony released PSone. I personally found better games coming from US and Europe. Just take a look at that new submarine game from a Romanian company (my horrible memory has erased both the companies name and game name right now...).

Hole point is, I want innovation, I don't want to keep playing the same 15 years old game with enhanced graphics and sound. Since Sony came up with PSone, all they did was push companies as Nintendo and Sega off the edge, hold exclusively of titles and throw old, dated hardware into the market.

Remember though, that MS has _lost_ money for every Xbox they sold since they put their price down to compete with Sony PS2. Buying an Xbox is not truly supporting them. In fact, you are taking 100 bucks away from Mr Gate's pocket by doing that.

So, always pick the next gen consoles by the games that are more appealing to you, offer better price and gameplay and above all, innovation. Now, if you like soon 20 years old turn-based gameplay as Final Fantasy / Square, then Japanese consoles (actually, Sony consoles, Nintendo is very innovative with Hardware, Sega with software) are the way to go...

Side Note: If Capcom re-re-release Megaman 1 again, you bet I would be buying it. But that's because I'm a freaky collector :).

Side Note2: This is not an answer to anyone's post. I just wanted to tell what I think about the way I see the Japanese games currently...

jaz 05-13-2005 05:48 PM

Im actually interested in seeing both systems. I hear they may push the date up on the PS3.

win32sux 05-13-2005 06:33 PM

man, the specs on that xbox 360 blew me away... i mean, THREE 3.2Ghz CPU cores?? a 500Mhz GPU?? 512MB of RAM?? OMFG, the original xbox only had a 733Mhz CPU, a 233Mhz GPU, and 64MB of RAM and it was already very nice... this thing is gonna be unbelievable... the video chip looks like it's much more bad-ass too, coming-in at 500 polygons...

dudes, i hate microsoft just as much as the next guy, and i would NEVER buy any pc/server software from them EVER - but you can bet i'll buy one of these babies as soon as i can!!! :)

xbox profits?? there's no such thing... microsoft loses money on each and every xbox that is sold... they need to sell GAMES in order to make money, and that's a totally different issue...
