Wound you name a girl Debian?

Just looking at cool names.

No. Packaging a birthday present for her would take forever.

No.

No, I try to think what the other kids would tease her with in the K-12 grades. If you like Debian, maybe you could try Debbie or Deborah.

Deborah -
Flourished 12th century BC) Prophet and heroine of the Hebrew scriptures. Her story is told in the book of Judges. With her general, Barak, she is credited with defeating the Canaanite armies led by Sisera. The Israelite victory over the Canaanites, which was aided by a thunderstorm that Israel saw as the coming of God from Mount Sinai, was celebrated in the “Song of Deborah” (Judges 5), possibly the earliest portion of the Bible.

We named our son Grep. Well not completely true, his initials are (on purpose) G. R. E. P.. But we do call him by his initials, hence Grep.

Do you have him search through files for strings?

He is 9 years old now, and yes he uses the terminal sometimes, and yes he searches from strings. It is the command easiest to remember for him.

Debian is actually TWO names, see quote below from Wikipedia.
Quote:

Debian was first announced on 16 August 1993 by Ian Murdock,[44] who initially called the system "the Debian Linux Release".[45] The word "Debian" was formed as a combination of the first name of his then-girlfriend Debra Lynn and his own first name
Play Bonny! :hattip:

I love Debian, but I wouldn't even name my pet Debian (if I had a pet). Better name her Debbie (as suggested above) or maybe Fedora, why not ;)

baldy3105 10-22-2012 01:57 PM

Only if I wanted her to hate me.

Debian is ...a boy's name, surely?

Brilliant.

Its too late for me to have a son, but, after seeing your post, the poor boy would just have to be called Aho Kernighan Weinberger Dennis. Sorry about Dennis, but I just could not bring myself to leave him out :)

I knew a kid named Buster Brown in elementary school, and he committed suicide shortly after high school.

Seriously ... a kid's name is something that she's going to have to live with for her entire life. Choose carefully. What you may intend as a joke isn't.

I agree. Mageia, Fedora and Mandriva would work better as girls' names.

Perhaps Debbie Ann ?
