I'll put in another plug for wireless mice. For me the ergonomics make it a no brainer. I hate fighting with a mouse. No matter what I do with a corded mouse, I always end up with the cord catching on things as I move it around. Perhaps I am doing something wrong, but wireless fixed this for me and was worth the extra few bucks. Same goes for optical vs ball mouse. No worry about keeping the mouse on a surface with the right amount of friction. No need to pick the mouse up and repeat the motion.
I have a logitech that takes AA batteries, and I have to change them once or twice a year. We keep AAs on hand for lots of other things, so it really isn't a hassle. Range isn't an issue with my mouse because the mouse came with an extender cord with a cradle for the USB receiver. I'm able to place the receiver within two feet of where I keep the mouse. Perhaps for the same reason, I haven't had any issues with interference.
As others have said, I don't understand the security concern with a wireless mouse. Wireless keyboard, sure.
