WinXP Not Moving Files to Beginning of the Partition
i have a 27 GB hd that has about 14 GB worth of data. i want to install linux partitions on the last 11 GB.
i defragged winxp, but it won't take two groups of file(s) to the beginning of the HD. the net result is it looks like i only have about 4 GB at the end of the HD with 2 empty spaces earlier in the drive totallying about 9 GBs. i tried using drirms on the chance that it would get the job done. it didn't. how can i get those two groups of files to the beginning of the HD so i can shrink the NTFS partition and then load my linux partitions? tia... |
try booting into basic safemode and defragment it then.
Maybe try using Partition Magic's defragmentation tool. |

Try disabling swap and deleting pagefile.sys
Boot in safemode and then defrag. Or try this. http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/PageDefrag.html |
