During shutting-off process, everything goes proper but the last one. After windows log-off, it goes into saving data, and it shows message that it is shutting down, but at last stage of shutting, it is not shutting down. I have GRUB as my bootloader, and has three partitions on where Windows is located. What can i do?
I do believe in the "Windows is shutting down" phase is when the actual services are being stopped. Driver conflicts or bugs, viruses, etc. can cause these services to not stop correctly, causing a hang in the shutdown procedure.
Update all of your drivers, manually stop any services you aren't using, and see how your shutdown reacts.
We have another computer in the house running XP, and have the exact same problem. Do you find that it only does it sometimes or does it all the time? It is very annoying when you shut the computer down in the evening, and find it still on the next morning because it has hung on the shutdown.
