windows 2000 service pack question

Hi,
it looks like i have never worked with Windows seriously, but now i unfortunately need to.
Does service pack 4 include the previous service packs? Do i need to install them first?
Does services packs provide defense against known viruses/worms?
Thanks

I think a service pack has all the previous service packs too

Service packs are bug fixes and security hole fixes

So If a worm takes advantage of a security whole then yes services packs will defent you from this kind of worms/viruses. But you'll still need to install an anti-virus program

Yes, sp4 included patches for sp1 - sp3 as well.

I think after sp3 for 2k came out they do that for all of their service packs. I may be mistaken but service pack 2 for 2k required you to have sp1 on your system already.

Normally, a service pack is a collection of all the patches and fixes up to the point of the new service pack. So SP2 included SP1 and other patches, SP3 included SP2 and so on.
