Why won't Skype let me open an account?

OS agnostic question

I want to set up a Skype account. I get to the sign in page and fill in the indicated required field for setting up a Skype account, click on the I accept button at the bottom, and all the account creation page does is scroll back up to the top, with no indication as to what information is missing.

I am not filling in mobile telephone numbers, since skype will be used on one computer, nor an I filling in personal information.

What's wrong?

What browser are you using? Maybe it's a browser related issue.

Typical solutions are:
  1. Disable adblock and try again.
  2. If you use /etc/hosts to get rid of some advertising websites (by assigning 127.0.0.1 to them), disable it and try again.
  3. Try different browser.
  4. Contact support.
