to stop spam. if you are going to be a valid contribution to this site then you will post real questions and wait. it's not like it takes long to make 5 real posts.

and you do NOT just post rubbish to bump your count... if you do, you get banned.

I've also found out there is a limit of 10 characters for each post

It's mostly about advertizing. Spammers who post garbage here are ALWAYS newbies and are only here to do exactly that.
By showing them that to earn our respect they have to do a little work then hopefully they will get the message that this is not the forum to advertize in.
If you have problems with getting to five posts I think you have some serious work ethic issues. Five posts is hardly anything but it is enough to keep the spammers out.

take alook at some of the threads about favorite distros. I am sure if you can help with wget than you can post why you feel |enter distro here| is your favorite.
