Why I love Linux.
My Operating Systems.
Win ME - on startup tells me: You need to reinstall windows Win XP - doesn't even try to startup Win 2k - 90% of the programs either crash in the first 5 min. or 2k says that it isn't a valid Win32 application Slackware - good and just keeps getting stabler and better |
why i love linux:
-it lets me do whatever the hell i wanna do, and (in most cases) doesn't bother me when i'm doing stuff
-gives me the ability to learn as much as i wanna learn about the system -many, many other reasons i can't even think of right now |
ok
i love Linux for
Stability |
My last installation of windoz (straight out of the box) worked fine for 24 hours before the first blue screen!
And I'm not talking about work where I have to reboot the machine 3 or 4 times a day! At home, great, it runs! |
i could come up with 100 reasons I love linux
i'll only give a few of mine 1. flexibility/customizability you can install and remove sections of the os to make it as big or as small as you need or want, even the command line and gui can be changed. 2. stability, yes I have seen linux crash, but not quite as many times as MACOS (although macos doesn't crash that much either) 3. power, I have yet to tap into even a small fraction of linux's power 4. how many other operating systems has the capacity (with some tweaiking output a command line (or perhaps even a gui) via a serial or ethernet line, i use a WYSE terminal to interface with my laptop for fun 5. i'ts not microsoft :p 6. just the fact that you have a choice other than the default OS that comes with your computer, be it an amiga, a PC, a mac, etc... (unless of course the computer is shiped with linux) 7. compatibility, alot of linux programs come as source code anyways, so regardless of the distribution or platform, all you have to do is compile the source and install the binaries and poof, the program is up and running |
My Windows crashes over 300 times this month...
Linux crashed only once (I let loose of the power cord in the first place... damn) |
300 times in one month? are you sure? need no to be too exagerating....
|
I found out that i cant even work in windows any more after only two years of Linux experience! Windows just slows down, freezes or crashes for no apparent reason, and more than anything its annoying having to reboot a system every time you change settings.
Now i got used to Linux and i can't stand windows because of the reasons stated above. Im not saying windoes is bad (but it is ;) ), it is also very user friendly and great for first time computer users, It would be very hard for them to start with Linux because Linux requires to have at least some basic computer knowledge. And then once i tasted the freedom and power Linux gives you, its just impossible to go back now... So windows is good until you "grow out of it" and feel the need for something better - LINUX! just my two cents... -NSKL |
obviously there are tons of other reasons why I love my Linux, but im posting stability wise.
I remember back when i never even realized how unstable windows was. After about a month of really using linux (back when i first started) I really started to notice the constant reboots and such. |
get this:
i sold my mom my old computer when i got a new one (a crappy dell, but at least not a P4), and before that i loaded WinME on it...a week later the primary hard drive controler died, and now it's a bsod every time it reboots! of course she blames me...but i guess it liked Linux better, i never had any problems verigoth |
linux is technically superior than windows . nothing else
|
Choice is why i like linux!! Dont want todo something one way then do it the other :P Dont like the GUI change to another! Want to install software then either RPm or build exactly for your machine!! ANyway thats why i love linux
|
I like the configurablilty and the stablity.
Plus, Linux is not owned or controlled by some greedy, manipulative, conceited company bent on world domination. |
I love it for what it is and I love it for what it will be tomorrow.
you'll never catch me sleeping with windows... |
1. Choice - I get to install what I want I my computer.
2. Flexibility - The configuration of Windows itself is superficial compared to Linux. 3. StabilityA lot of people have seen Windows crash, in some form or way for reason unexplain. Where as Linux proves its much more stable unless of course you do something really wrong or your hardware screws up (eg. motherboard). |
