It gets so frustrating when google starts to auto complete everything when I want to search. It might know a lot of things about me but why does it think that it can read my mind? And not just auto complete but display the pages that it thinks I am searching for. And in most cases it is incorrect.
I just want to say leave ME alone and let ME decide what I want to search for. I am more than capable of searching what I need.

Hi linuxlover I am suffering equal annoyance and the solution I made was to avoid google. I am using yahoo and all its derivatives like Lycos or Altavista, there you will find peace.
Too much automation is just not helpful most often.
There is a simple solution: Stop using google and start using an alternative search engine. Here are 2 alternatives: DuckDuckGo / ixquick
I've stopped using google due to a mix of annoyances (auto completion, privacy and "tailored/personalized" answers to name just 3). The thing that did it for me was the fact that one used to be able to set certain preferences without any hassle, nowadays one needs a google account to be able to do this.
Man, do I miss AltaVista (before it was bought by Yahoo!)

Reason: spelling
I do use duckduckgo as my primary search engine but I am yet to make a complete transition from google (it has been part of net life for so long). How do people actually bear all the troubles of using google without frustration mounting to head? I have so many times stopped myself from punching the screen when google brought up the pages without me completing my search typing. Has google started to think of itself as GOD (I am not going to argue whether god exists)
Largely through privacy concerns, I decided that I wanted to avoid Google search. I tried DuckDuckGo, but I can't really get on with how it formats (and reformats) its output results, but Dogpile currently seems fine.
Google actually tracks the search using the IP address of the user. This is how it can filter the search results based on the location of the user. If you want you can see your location on the left hand column when you do some search. Not just this but google actually has different auto complete suggestions based on the location. Google india will give different suggestions than say Google.com US site. And I have personally experienced this.
And using "Quotation marks" in the search went futile. It still gives suggestions. And add to the woe, when I entered quotation mark in the search box, it actually gave the results automatically for "Quotation mark". It did not even wait for me to complete my type.
I am trying to completely switch to a different search engine. I will also give dogpile a try as suggested.

+1. I switched from Google to DuckDuckGo for the same reasons others have stated here (annoyances, privacy concerns) and have never looked back. YMMV, but DuckDuckGo often returns more relevant results for my queries.
