UNIX has a bunch of problems when you consider it vs what an OS really should be.
... my IRIX works perfectly fine.... other then the price i gotta paid.
still, the support i got is way better then M$, i don't consider that is "bashing" M$, rather just sharing how much i like my own little system then a PC box with pre -M$ installed in it.
Lets just stop calling it linux while we are at it... its UNIX.
That's about as accurate as saying that Windows is DOS. Linux was created based on Unix. Unix and Linux are not synonymous.
oopicmaster, how many times are you going to insert senseless babble into this thread? If you are so against linux, why are you even a member of linuxquestions?
Sure, M$ is good for people that dont know what they are doing and just want to push a power button and get started with everything (including immediately beginning the destruction of their computer). Linux is just as good for new users. My Girlfriend, for example, has no experience with Linux, yet she can come over to my house and do whatever she wants on my computer and has no fears of damaging anything because she simply cant. She doesnt have to worry about viruses, programs freezing, needing to reboot, or needing the three-finger-salute!
There is a huge difference between being a bandwagoner, and being someone who is intelligent enough to see the power of a tool and embracing it. I guess all of the cavemen who decided to do stuff with fire were just bandwagoners, right?
Well, the best IDE for java that I have ever used is Ready to Program Java by Holt I think. It is a very easy thing to use but I think the linux version is only beta For windows it is about 90 times better than Jbuilder.

Linux an UNIX are pretty damn synonomous IMO.
Linux if free Unix. Nothing new to see here.
And UNIX is FAAAAAAAAAR From being what an OS should be.... so is Windows.
You "Linux Rules" folks remind me of some old coot sitting on a porch in alabama with a Pipe in your mouth talking about "Well back in MY day we did... X". Linux (er um I mean UNIX) is just like Windows... a retarded second attempt.
HA
In 10 years youll look back at UNIX and FINALLY realize what Im talking about.
COOTS! CODGERS!
All that can REALLY be discussed with complete logic in this topic is "Which OS sucks worse?"
I say Windows. But that doesnt mean that Linux (er um UNIX) doesnt suck too.
Well it seems to boil down to opinion a bit. I find Mac OS X in it's present form to be very reliable. My Red Hat is too, but it isn't stressed very hard. I actually feel a bit sorry for M$ coders stuck with reworking xpee to prevent such crap as the doom and its cazillion siblings from happening again. It's not a happy thing though, to know that enough morons are out there still trusting just any attachments in any e-mail
Well Linux started out as a copy of Unix but as it gained in popularity many new features were developed on Linux and then ported back to unixes, so a lot of Unix is a copy of linux.
"which OS sucks worse" sums is up nicely. Every OS sucks, all hardware sucks, all software sucks. All OS/hardware/software varies in the level of suckiness and sucks in their own ways. Somewhere way back in usenet history is a list of various os's and levels of suckage and ways they suck
Mutt: the e-mail client that sucks less than all the rest (their actual motto)
Linux: the computer OS that sucks less than all the rest (otter bee Linux's motto)

Then what OS doesn't suck and what OS is as an OS should be?
In my opinion an Operating System is any system that is capable doing all the operations a user needs... Linux does it... Windows does it too, but it also crashes my system after a half year when I've surfed the net enough to get enough spyware from pop-ups and stuff.
Here are my main 5 reasons I'm using Linux instead of Windows:
1. Free (I'm no rich guy, studying at a university costs, and with no incomes it's hard to pay for such expensive stuff as an operating system that costs as much as half the price of your computer)
2. Freedom (of choice)
3. It has more features for networking stuff which I like to play around with
4. The reasons many has mentioned, stability, performance etc.
5. The community. I just don't like some people in Windows ("i wonna h4xx0r!!!!!!1111 i hav sub7!!!!!!!!!11111 ho do u h4xx0r teh FBI??!?!?!?!?!?"), I rather talk in forums like this one, this is my first post here but looks like I'm gonna stay here, forever... I love this place.
Oh yeah, one more thing, there's a thing that most people don't know, about hackers:
Hackers were/are the people who built up the this all..
Have a look at The Jargon File:

I wish you all a good day and a fun time, please don't 'flame' me if you don't like my opinions or way of thinking. Just tell me.
