Besides, that's all they are: silly misspellings that don't actually harm or do anything. Spelling Linux as "£inux" or MS as "M$" isn't going to undermine either one. I still don't understand why you think that these "satirical" misspellings are so important.

I agree somewhat, SilverBack. Even though I use satirical misspellings a lot, I do believe they are *VERY* iMmature and are characteristic of Apple fanboys especially, not us. We're professionals, not iLemmings.

So why do you use them?

Because sometimes I just get so pissed off at those fanboys of proprietary software that I feel I have no choice. I only like using them as a last resort.

I have dealt with winduhs fanboys so I think I am better qualified to answer the question. There are some fanboys who think that the computer was invented by Bill Gates (not joking). These people do not even know what happens in the control panel in windows. I changed the mouse cursor for one guy and he almost looked at me as if I had hacked into his system. Needless to say he is afraid of letting me even close to his pc .
This is what MS does to people. Many times people do not know how to install a program but then their gaming skills are awesome. For them a computer is a device to play games and that makes me mad. I cannot understand someone having a 4GB RAM and a quadcore processor plays games on the pc for 4-5 hours. Comeon, buy a gaming station for crying out loud.
With *nix it is a different world altogether. You can look at the source code and compile programs and kernel to your hearts content. I do not know someone using duhs even knows what a kernel is. The greatest challenge I think faced by a duhs user is working with excell . With linux there is a challenge at every step which can even start at simple installation of the os.
PS: Whenever I am using my pc in cli and a duhs fanboy comes I tell him I am using dos and then his face is something to look at .

I can understand that. Add a good graphics card and games look really better than on a gaming station.

Generally, the term 'power user' regardless of OS puzzles me. What does that even mean? Do their actions draw more electricity?

Couldn't agree with this more. The teachers at one of my $chools are like that (sorry for using the dollar sign; it is a non-public school that's all about using money to subdue its students): There was one time when I simply brought a USB flash drive to school and the staff had an irrational fear of me plugging it in. Why? Because they have an irrational fear of students doing anything they think is "hacking" which to me is merely nothing. They have no idea that it doesn't take much to change the desktop background/theme, change the cursor, install software, download files (which mostly are very benign with the exception of maybe 0.1% of them), browse the Web, or listen to music/videos, and they have no idea that none of this involves hacking. This proves their dumbness.

Hacking is writing source code. Hacking is writing shell scripts (or batch files in Windows). Hacking is creating software to brute force passwords or encryption keys. That's all it is. It has nothing to do with anything else other than *EXTREMELY* hard-core things. Even remotely accessing your home computer is merely navigating to a Web page, nothing more.

This, and the fact that most Windows users think they can be hard-core gamers and still be hard-core computer users. That doesn't cut it. If they're hard-core gamers, they're hard-core Xbox/PS3/Wii users, not hard-core computer users. A computer is *MUCH* more complicated than a game console.

My teacher once asked me why am I trying to hack into her computer. She gave some homework to be submitted by email, she expected a .doc but I submitted a .txt

They have spotted me working in some weird desktop on a library computer and gave me a talk too (why are you hacking etc). What happened was that I booted knoppix on the computer

I sometimes just left the cd inside and watched from the side how the students try to figure out how to use it or the techs trying to troubleshoot it. I literally heard the techs saying that there is no way it could be a cd, because even os cd's bot into the setup wizard and never into the desktop

I know a sysadmin who has his windows xpee locked up and said it was safe. I told him that it was safe until it was not connected to the internet. What he ment with safe was no one could run a .bat or an .exe as the programs folder was read-only for others. I came up with the ophcrack and read his password and then logged in. Since then in his eyes I am a hacker.
