I'm a "*nix user" and have never told anyone to "google it". But a lot of times I do find answers to questions people ask by doing a simple search on google and found there answer in 30 seconds.
I post a link for someone to read something when they ask questions such as "how do I install Linux?". I mean really there is so much info on that and they certainly didn't look at their distro's website.
I really like that thread "Is there apache for windows". Might someone think about looking on the apache web site?
Then every single day someone posts such as "Newbie need help". I like to help people but have limited time. It would be much better for someone to put something related to the actual problem in their title. Theat way if I can help I can open the post. If not, I can move on and help someone else.
i cant speak for tricky, only myself but on these forums we get a very large number of newbies who dont want to read documentation, dont want to google, they just want instant answers, and unless we see some evidence that someone has got off there ass and actually put some effort into their question then we have to treat them like this. as i said above if you had stated your question like this "hi, ive noticed red hat has a quote in the stock market but i am unable to find one for suse, ive googled and found the following sites [links] but nothing related to suse, any help appreciated" then i dont think there would have been any problems.
if you think us not wanting to continuously repeat ourselves, and google for other people is a superiority complex then thats your choice but all were doing is trying to help and if you dont like the way we do it then feel free not to post.
If people don't want to search Google or read documentation then why are they using Linux? You can ask all the questions you want on this and other forums but if you don't take the time to read or search for yourself you'll never get anywhere with Linux. It takes love of the OS and perseverence.
you keep saying you have limited time so you say google it.
is there apache for windows?
no - two letters
yes - three letters
google it - 8 letters
come on now,you wasting more time by saying google it, then giving the answer if you know it. and 5 letters shouldnt matter to ya, i know you dont have that much of a limited time.

bajanick- you got me there lol.
h1tman,
Click the search button on one of my posts. Go back through all 300 of my previous posts. You will not find one time where I told anyone to "google it".

Yeah....and you know what. If someone asked if there was apache for windows I'd say.....
If they are too dumb to try that they shouldn't be attempting to install apache.
h1tman, you know.....you're arguing symantecs and useless BS right now. I'm done posting in this useless thread. You're doing nothing but stirring up people in here. Get a clue. Search here first, then search Google.
Can't do that? Then post useless questions and see if you get answers
Also, we're not worried about how many letters it takes to post the answer. It's about making a point. If I say "yes", the dumb idiot will post again and say "where do I get it?".
Get the point? People just need to use a bit of common sense these days before posting
Take fancypiper's advice.......read his how to post questions thingy....
Alright, I have a feeling this is just going to loop and loop and everyone is just going to keep repeating themselves. A thread like this is only going to cause a stir on a forum anyways.
Just a reminder though, lets keep it clean or it will be closed. Regards.
hey ive got a mac, i got a laptop wit xp and slack.
ive been in the mac community for yeearrs, been using windows since 2 years ago. i installed slack last year, but ive had free shell accounts or accounts on a friends box for years.
so ive been on both sides of the fence, never when asking mac or win questions has someone told me to google or read the docs, they always gave me useful tips. thats what made the mac community such a great one. in the *nix community you got people who are mad arrogant just cuz they use *nix.( refering to linux, bsd, etc)
just cuz a question sounds easy, silly or simple to them, they gotta give the person a hard time.
he wasnt even a question. i told him to go for it. and told him the website to get more information bout installin on laptops. i didnt know the url to linux on laptops so i just told him to google for it. there he would get all the help available on isntallin linux on hp laptop.
i said already i agree wit some things being told to google, but most of the time, its like you know the dude knows the answer so why beat around the bush, waste my time and yours.
like asking someone if they know if its gonna rain today, they know the answer, but tell you to buy the paper or go home and watch the weather channel.
imagine a linux user as a 411 operator, "whats the number to joe's pizza", "go google for it or look in the phonebook"
some people say the google thing cuz it really is the best suggestion while others you can tell just do it cuz they arrogant.
and that other due i never accused you of anything.
