I would like recommendations about which wiki software to use. I am currently running the Debian Distro, but would consider switching for valid reasons.
I have been using Tiki Wiki. (tikiwiki.org) Its free and Php based and uses mysql and postgres. I prefer to use postgres but found it was a bit buggy with tikiwiki.....so use mysql.
I spent quite a long time trying out different wikis and settled on Tiki Wiki because it has a wide range of functional add ons and they all seem to work. There are heaps of good ideas in this product. This includes file and image galleries, forums, blogs, calendars, rss feed, dynamic html and so on. There are a wide range of look and feel templates. Everthing is configuarble but sometimes not completely obvious how.
With a little PHP knowledge you can modify modules. In my case I wanted my linux opeation system to make additions to file galleries to automatically making additions to file sets provided to various classes of users.
The user forums are helpful. While there is lots of documentaion, it seems to be all over the place an in various states of development.
I recently tried PHPNuke which is mostly free. The look and feel is better I think but I'm suspicious about how many functional modules that come at a price.
I suggest you look over http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compari..._wiki_software for a good exposure to features of many wiki implementations, links to others collected by language (e.g. Pascal, python, etc.), along with specific sites so you can see them in action ... cheers, makyo
