When will M$ offer linux support?

My query is that when will that rechid GATES and his crappy windows start offering linux support.

I mean its quite a large feature on a linux distro to be windows compatable, or for a non windows prog to be office compatable for instance.

Like open office.

But when will Microsoft Office start offering backward compatablility with Open Offices native file formats?

What about Line for windows allowing our fav progs just like, KTron and Tux Racer, or everyones favourite frozen bubble, god i love that soundtrack such a brilliant game. Lord id switch to windows again if there was a game like that for it *slaps himself for reliseing what he just sed*

Who else loves frozen bubble.

Ohh and another thing i aint touchin redhat again, they sed go to windows for desktop machines, even though they themselves offer a desktop option

 fools:p

long live linux

DIE GATES DIE

Hi Matt,

I run RH9 on my system and it works fine for me. I don't know what your problem is exactly.

Whitehat 11-17-2003 02:41 PM

Your post really doesn't make a whole lot of sense. It seems more like a bash at Redhat.

Also why would you ask if you can run stuff like Frozen Bubble on Windows. That's not a Microsoft problem that's simply the coders making the games for Windows (why would they want to)..?.

I bet you're trolling....

Regarding Microsoft:
They don't have any reason to offer Linux support. As long as they are the dominating the market, why should they? They're in business to sell their products, not to support those who don't.

If things were reversed (ie if the vast majority of home computers ran Linux), they they probably would be, because it would be in their interest to provide cross-compatibility. And along those lines, if that were the case, then I would bet that the *nix developers might assume a similar role that MS holds today. It's up to the underdogs to play catch-up and prove they can compete (Although I don't necessarily think that falls in line with the open source model).

Basically, in their current position, MS doesn't have to do anything they don't want to. Unfortunate yes, but true.

And regarding RedHat:
Treat it the same you would Windows. If you don't like what they have (or don't have) to offer, don't use their products. They may or may not feel the effects of their statements. Time will tell.

That's just my thoughts

no just quicker to type

---

you all seem to have mistaken what im saying.

no one can say that they dont have a quibble about windows or mircosoft,

my piont was is that now linux is becomeing more popular by the day, and even microsoft are realiseing that it is a threat, should ms offer support for linux programs, because there are a few programs that arnt available on windows, or there are but badly copied one or badly ported ones.

as far as the redhat bashing goes, yeah i will to a certain degree, because linux is a i dont want to use windows statement, in most cases, yet redhat are saying things like, that home users should stick to microsoft windows at home as the average home user isnt ready for linux yet, although redhat may be right, shouldnt someone work towards, like mandrake are doing, a system where time at the command promt or compiling programs arnt needed, an almost complete operating system, dare i say this, like a windows one, that is lready pre configured or there are easy tools for configuration, not haveing to download lots of extra tools, to avoid time at the command prompt.

I mean you may know better but alot of programs, including configurators need you to type there commands at the command prompt as most of them give no indication to where they are stored if at all.

So maybe my argument is unfounded, i dont know. But what i do know is that m$ are getting to big for there boots. And perhaps we the public havent helped that becuase we are in search of an os that is easy to config. Maybe the blame lays on the developers of the tools, maybe people like mandrake who distribute a lx distro should create some easy to use configuration tools for all the things that are given away with there own flavour.

sorry if i upset anyone, just thaught it would be fun to challeneg some of you windows loveing conformists, meow (you probally wouldnt get that, british joke)

bye

Why would M$ support programs they didn't develop? That would be like GM supporting Ford cars.. it isn't going to happen. With all the many open source programs it would be impossible to support and satisfy their customers supporting both theirs and the millions of programs for Linux.

matthewhardwick 11-18-2003 12:41 PM

ok, so suse developed a distro (with its own kerenel i think) and that offers windows support, both microsoft office and other programs, sun didnt develop m$ office, but open office supports it. so your argument is flawed, why should lx distros support ms if there vendors didnt develop windows apps

and the cars thing>
BMW supported rover, so that kinda thing does go on.

Oh your talking about their projects supporting other products.. I thought you meant like actual tech support.. ;)

Nah, still won't happen anytime soon, at least not by M$. And most of the time its really up to the developer of particular apps if they want it to run in Windows and vice versa, etc.

doood. Spll chek worcs on ths site man!

:D :D Kidding, I miss that button sometimes myself :D :D

It hurt my eyes reading the second post... :(

Why should MS products support Linux? As long as their more popular programs only run natively under Windows and can only talk to other MS products (or products developed by firms who are MS friendly), users are pretty much tied in to MS.

If they start allowing their systems to talk to Linux systems, there is less reason to stay as a Microsoft customer. Not going to happen.

Even if the DoJ suddenly decided to force MS to do this, they would simply offer absolutely minimal help - you'd end up with even more buggy products and would decide to move back to Windows.

matt_w_lambert 11-18-2003 03:58 PM

i don't agree with you about what you say about Red Hat because i know a few people who use windows and when they here about rh and they think that it should be as easy as windows but when they start using it they cant figure any thing out because they are dependant on windows and so thats why i agree if you cant handle linux maby its not for you and windows would be easier for most people i know

I'll put money that within the next 5 or 10 years there will be an MS distro of Linux. Any takers?

dalek 11-18-2003 05:01 PM

Since I don't use windoze, I like going to the M$ website and clicking around on some of the links. I make sure to tell it to send what I'm using.

This is what it sends:

Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; Konqueror/3.1; Linux 2.4.21-0.13mdk; X11; i686; en_US, en)

I bet that makes there blood boil. :p :p :p

Go have a good cry Bill Gates.  I don't want or need your crappie OS.

I wouldn't want there support either. It's as bad as their OS.

Later

:D :D :D :D

I'll bet to that as there will never be one. Why would they? That would go against in what they believe in as a company.

How much you want to wager?
