Whats with all the ads that mislead us into the "windows vs linux" thing?
Has anyone else noyiced the ads on LQ that say "Fedora Linux News" or whatever, that lead to the Microsoft Windows vs Linux thing? Honestly, I can't beleive MS would sink to such a low level. Hat site is bad enough, but those ads are misleading and frustrating. I know this post seems off-topic, but I'm annoyed about it, I don't know if anyone else is, but I pay attention to the little things, and I'm probably going to complain.

It's all FUD. Become a Contributing Member and turn off the ads.

To be honest with you (and to add to Chinaman's advice, which is good and you should listen to him ;)), clicking on said ad brings in some revenue to LQ. If we all were to click these ads, Microsoft would be providing money to LQ and, cunningly, would not be getting money from any of us.
So, glass half full or glass half empty? |
Oh, and see this post and the rest of the thread: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...43#post1561143

After reading that post XavierP, I'm thinking we have to tell Jeremy about this? Or do you think he already knows? anyway, like I said before, I can't beleive MS would do this, I'll admit, I actually do like Windows when I'm looking for an easy way out, but usually I use Linux.
BTW, I would love to become a contributing member, but I don't have a credit card (not old enough), so that's not possible. If it is, in any way though, could someone please tell me? I love this site (as you can probably tell by searching my name in the search, I've asked so much). |

The best things to do would be: 1) Become a contributing member if the ads bother you (as already mentioned) 2) Click on it and earn some free funding for LQ ;) 3) Ignore it and send hate mail to billg@microsoft.com :D Any of those should work... |
In the thread I pointed you at, Jeremy had asked that he be notified when you see an ad. The way to do this best would be to add a reply to that thread stating when/where (page and position) you saw the ad.
If you wish to contribute and cannot use a credit card, this page has other methods. If none of those methods work for you, drop Jeremy an email to discuss alternate ways to pay. |
