the only games I play are Enemy territory and I usually play Diablo2 LOD hardcore at the beginning of the ladder untill my player/players get to arounf lev 80 then I usually get bored and play ET again I am agree with almost everything that has been said in here, I can run any pc game out there and have tryed most of them but they lack allot of things I used to always play the kings quest and some o0f the old space quest games those are the types of games tghey need to bring back because they are allot more challenging with actuaal story lines. I play Assasins creed for about two hrs and was totally bored of it and ended up uninstalling it because it was so repetitive.

1. Feeling/atmosphere
2. team /dual player matches/challenges
3. balance
4. min .... max level of difficulty (the overall envelope of hardness)

These factors are hard to show on a trailer/poster/presentation

Most games of 2008 have only good trailers/posters/demos, once You've seen it, that's it(!)

I want a International karate II port for linux!
(most duels begin on sofa and end behind ::now with legs too!!:: :-P)
Those where the days...

Games don't make me stick infront of my screen the whole day like they used to, they're not intriguing.. just not interesting.

I'm sure I'm not the only person feeling like this, am I? What are your thoughts on this.. please elaborate.

PS: Am not talking about Windows/.Xbox/Playstation/Nintendo/Linux etc. games but games and the gaming industry as a whole.
Yeah, I know what you're talking about, and it's sad You're not alone, today's games really suck compared to the old console games and even dos games. For sure there is an absolute and utter lack of originality in today's games.

Possible theories on why it might have ended up like this:

1) Change in development companies. The companies have just begun to suck. They hire stupid game designers that can't make anything original. To make a good game is make a work of art, a masterpiece. Today all you get is a cheap knockoff of some other game.

2) Change in gamer market. Today's gamers are not really gamers. Many seem to enjoy these very dry, unoriginal games simply because the games are

a) tough, you have to be 1337 to beat this game, no n00bs can beat it.

b) extremely violent and senseless, just random killing without a purpose.

c) button masher, some freaks get off by mashing buttons, many games fulfill this urge.

d) great graphics, zero gameplay, apparently doesn't bother most people, the companies take advantage of this (not only game companies but also M$, nvidia, and others who will provide the powerful hardware required to run it and the hardware wasting OS to help use it up)

The question is: will it end, will the dark age of gaming lead to a renaissance ?

p.s. Don't even mention online games, and don't ever play them on weekdays. People seem to be really pissed off on weekdays, they never stop cussing and calling everyone a n00b. Online games also show many a person's true nature ...

I just recently pulled out my old 3DO console and played a nice 2-D platformer. Man those were the days. Still have some PSOne games, no console, so I just emulate it. I prefer the classic consoles.

I don't care much for online gaming either. With all the spamming, and nonsensical talk, why bother... I don't care for WoW. The only game I ever played online was StarCraft, before all the spamming, and being rushed. Today's games just aren't worth it.

I think "today games for PC ain't worth it" will be more correct.

I would say "today games for PC are definitely not worth it", for consoles they are simply "not worth it".
