warning: obnoxious philosophical debate

Philosophical debate, anyone? Sorry, I can't help it, i enjoy this kind of stuff

the following is an attempt to explain the reason why men dominate the IT industry.

fact: Men and women think differently. neither sex is superior to the other in any way besides height, weight, and muscle mass. The difference is in the way they naturally organize their thoughts.

I have heard it explained like this (by whom, i don't remember): Men organize their thoughts sequentially, like a waffle (?bad analogy i think, it has something to do with filling squares with syrup) ... i would actually compare men to MS-DOS. they think about one thing, then they move to something different. Men are incapable of multitasking. A woman's thought process, on the other hand, looks like a plate of spaghetti. You can't really follow one thread, because there are so many different things going on at a time. I would compare a woman's thought process to Linux or any multitasking os because they can do more than one thing at a time(as long as they don't run out of memory) This is due to the need for them to be able to keep track of multiple people at once (assuming multiple children AND a husband

although it can be argued that women still think sequentially... in fact it has been proven that humans are incapable of multitasking at all, we just switch back and forth between tasks really quickly (hmm...that sounds familiar). Microprocessors aren't capable of multitasking, either. Even Linux executes one. command. at. a. time. It is just very good at managing which program executes what command, when. Men and women are the same way.

But that's beside the point. The reason why there are few women in the IT field is because they don't generally want to be... most women that I know don't take up a particular interest in technology. I do not at all believe that woman are incapable of understanding computers. My CS teacher is a woman and she is very down-to-earth about computers. No, the real reason is because computers were designed by men and therefore were patterned after them, to an extent. And let's face it.. how interested are women in understanding men? I don't think that men consciously designed computers with this in mind, I just think that it was a result of human nature... in art we reflect ourselves.

But women, let not your hearts be troubled... we need you more than you know! (and more than we let on, too)
