VOIP Free Phone Calls??

Hi again everyone,

Just wondering can someone fill me in on the blanks regarding VOIP and free phone calls.

I mean to say, how exactly do you get free phone calls using VOIP? I have VOIP on the video game I play "Battlefield 2" but how would I ring a normal telephone that is connected to a telephone company using my 512/128Kbs broadband Internet access for free?
  • Is it actually possible to ring another phone that does not use VOIP with VOIP?

Thanks For Your Help.

Bear in mind ; My knowledge about this is a tad dated (about half a year , since I last tried VOIP..) , but...
With Skype , calls to other Skype-members were free and calls to "standard" phone-numbers had to be paid for.
I guess this has to do with the fees , the regular Phone-companies charge for the use of their networks.

So : To the best of my knowledge no free calls to "standard" phones.

i recall trying some form of voip service a while back that would let you call a regular phone for free (i called my own phone and listened to myself) but theres a delay. I remeber reading that if you bought their equipment then they said the delay was signifigantly less.

I believe some companies have it now where they charge for you to recieve calls from regular phones w/o much hassle.

but dont quote me on any of this.. :)
