Virtual printer for a DOS system

HI all,

I've been searching google, but it seems that the only thing listed is for winbloz.

Scenario:
Have a system that runs on DOS... yes I know. Anyway, the system throws out to an epson printer. What I'm trying to do, is do away with the paper all together. I'm trying to find a proggie that can make the DOS system dump the info to a file rather than to a printer. The program that is running in DOS doesn't have the option to output to a file like the regular DOS print command...
so is there a way to 'convince' DOS that LPT1 is still there/active, but actually have it ported to a file instead?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Tnx

Yes I just googled it as well, and it comes up with a crap load of windows applications and very few for DOS only.
The ones listed on the page you suggested is for a printscreen function. I'm not using printscreen.

I don't recall saying printscreen before in the OP, but I may be mistaken. I'll have to go and re-read my OP.

But, to reiterate, I'm using a program which runs in DOS. It prints it's output to a standard Epson printer attached to its own port. It is NOT using printscreen as it's print function. It's printing text to the printer and the screen has a graphical display, so there is no way it's using printscreen.

In pure DOS, it looks like a no. Theres relatively few abstractions. No device drivers. No api.The program you are using probably comminicates DIRECTLY to the lpt port. Theres little chance of intercepting that because only one program can access the lpt port at a time.

Ya I kinda figured that DOS wouldn't have such a utility.

What I was thinking about doing was just taking the cable from the output machine (the printer cable is actually coming from a serial port not the parallel) and link it to a linux box and have it captured directly by the linux machine. Sux to have to use 2 diff machines for one simple task... but that's what they get for using DOS in the first place.

Tnx for the input.
