Actually, it is quite possible that over-the-counter NSAIDs, such as ibuprofen and acetaminophen, are more-likely culprits in autism.
Both possibilities are actively being investigated by the NIH and other groups, as any Google search will show.
One obvious clue is that an upswing in autism cases appears to more-or-less coincide with the period of time at which these aspirin-alternative drugs were introduced. (It is well known that an embryo is very vulnerable to seemingly-insignificant environmental things.) Vaccines such as MMR have been around longer than this, although the possibility of some kind of interaction "also involving immunizations" is being researched, too.
Unfortunately, biology (especially forensic biology) "is not an exact science."
I visit a lot of websites in my retirement; while doing so I read an awful lot of biased opinions!! Sometimes I agree with something that is said, sometimes I do not!! My maternal grandmother, with her herbal medicines, was the best doctor we ever had. I do not trust chemical companies nor do I trust the products they produce or the propaganda that goes with it; but that is just me and my opinions. Every human being has the right to believe anything that they want to; or to follow any religion or lifestyle that they please. I do not believe that Oswald killed Kennedy, nor do I believe the 9/11 tale spun by the government; but those are just my opinions, I can not prove a thing about any of it!!
Well, what burns me most of all is the fact that over-the-counter cold medicines containing pseudoephedrine continue to be sold, period. Drug companies probably love how "profitable" these drugs are ... "gosh darn it, so many people have colds!"
If you look at the ingredient list for "crystal meth," only one ingredient is impossible to synthesize: you guessed which one!
There are plenty of alternative chemicals which could perform just as well as pseudo-ep, and the scourge of "meth" would all but dry up if it were no longer available, but no one seems to be particularly interested in tampering with all those delicious profits.
Go ahead, go ahead. Just keep telling yourself that all those people really do have colds . . . that none of the money you're making is "blood money."

Still available without prescription over here, but not over the counter: pharmacy only, photo identification required, register to be signed, limit on amount over some time (something like 6 months, not sure).
