usb transceiver for usb2.0?


I am new to USB host programming. I need to understand
about tranceiver. what is the functionality of transceiver?
Why it is needed?

Please help me to understand

It handles the USB interface analog transmit and receive necessities. Where you send your data out too, and where incoming data comes from.
