UK Residents

we all know that the UK Government has dallied over using Linux for government business, but they appear to stall regularly and only ever include a small subset of functions in their considerations. So, I've started a e-petition on the government website calling for a full review with a view to migrating all systems to open source, and request that you put your name to it.
Sorry everyone else, AFAIK it's only available to UK residents (possibly UK nationals).

Hi i signed it. I think this would be the correct move especially with the financial status of the UK at the moment. Something like this could also create many needed jobs.

Cheers.

I'm not in the UK but I applaud you for this initiative. Should probably do something like this for Australia, or at least my own state of New South Wales. Keep us updated on any milestone numbers you reach with your petition. Good luck.

The track record of the UK civil service on computing is, of course, dreadful: one failed project after another. And the use of Microsoft has a knock-on effect. Local authorities and schools have had to use Windows because they were required to use certain software. Bristol was only allowed to use open-source email software after negotiations with the security services and the Cabinet Office!

PS I've just signed. That makes me number 11! This obviously needs publicising.

I agree it needs publicising - I've posted on as many forums as I'm a member of, and have asked MicroMart to include something in their pages, but if anyone has ears of people anywhere feel free to spread the word

Signed! BTW, it's worth emailing your MP to let them know you've signed this petition and give some detail on your views on the matter...

Oh by the way, i was curious after having signed it... how many signatures does a petition need to get noticed for consideration?

We're not there yet It needs 100 000 signatures for it to be debated in the House of Commons.

Edit: 99 966 signatures to go. We can do it!!!!
