UK Laptop purchase advice Plz (Where to buy)

Hi guys,

Well after 1 year and 3 days of HARD work my HP pavilion ze5354 died yesterday. :D
(Yes I know they are crap, but I never had any problems configuring or using it until now)

This is not the usual thread saying which laptop to buy,
I actually need to know where I can buy a decent one and choose from a good selection online, (Preferably UK based)

I bought this one from John Lewis, who give a standard 2 year warranty with purchases, however should It be beyond repair they will either have to offer an alternative (of which there are none at 1300) or refund my money.

Im trying to keep my options open here guys so I would appreciate any help that you can offer.

PS as I said above I would prefer a UK based supplier as it has to have a UK qwerty keyboard.

Many thanks in advance..

Scott

The best all around supported laptop recommended by kernel monkeys would be the IBM T41. Everything just works and it's very fast. And I believe IBM is also in the UK, as well as any other place. So, there you have it.

I previously bought a laptop from novatech in portsmouth. Gradually many systems (floppy, usb, cd drive etc) started to fail a year after I bought it... so I would recomend you dont buy from them.

Currently I have a Compaq Presario 2500 and it seems to work good so far (8 months)....touch wood!

Good Luck,

Mark

Got mine from www.simply.co.uk because they seem to be good on the range and on the delivery and price. Also check www.pricerunner.co.uk to see price comparisons.

Thanks for taking the time to reply to me guys

@ Thoreau, thanks for the advice,
while I agree with you and would love one, its a bit out of my price range,

@ markhod, I have heard this from others about Novatech but thanks for the warning.

@ XavierP, excellent links thanks I had a good look round and have 1 or 2 models in mind.

I got my laptop back, they replaced the motherboard and hard drive and its running great under Slackware..

I guess I wont be buying a new laptop anytime soon (which is a pity cos I saw some real nice ones)
but I suppose I was better being prepared.

Thanks again for all your replies and help
