Ubuntu Demo without installing

Greetings one and all.
Have just successfully used the Demo option prior to installing Ubuntu.
On exiting the option (shutdown) the machine was restarted but my current OS, Windows Vista failed to boot. After a struggle, using the original disk and selecting the "repair system" option the message I get is that the NLS file is missing or corrupt, so I will have to do a re-install. Although I can do this, it is a bit of a bind, so before proceeding, does any-one have any suggestion (solution) please?
This scenario took place on a friend's machine, as I had problems with my burner so he did a disc for me. He liked the sound of Ubuntu so he decided to try it for himself. Unfortunately, and most embarrassingly for me, it is HIS machine that is stuffed, not mine!Nightmare!!
Any help much appreciated. Thankyou

what is the exact name of the file that is missing?

Ubuntu view without installing

Thank you for prompt reply. I have attempted to obtain specific details from my friend, but he has already re-installed Vista. He says several files seem to have been corrupted, thus preventing Windows from booting.
Seems we won't get to the bottom of it, but thanks for your help. Please consider subject closed.

I suspect user error, if what you mean by "demo" is actually "live". A normal live load only loads into ram, and no modifications are made to the hard drive. If you were exploring, maybe something was initiated to cause the change?
