TV overlay (Planning on writing documentation)

I enjoy writing documentation and I found a lack of support with setting up a machine with a TV card to do TV overlay.

i'd like to learn what tools are necessary to do this and my results (beside a tv viewing computer) is full documentation. I understand that overlay is a lot more efficient for just viewing the TV card signal (no intentions for recording) and with it being overlay, I can run a TV card on a low end machine (P233MHZ)...

Am I correct on this?

In addition, would running in frame buffer be better then Xfree86?

I'd like to get a grasp on this so I can help others out that want the same thing (plus i'd like to repalce my windows machine thats doing overlay, with a free(dom) one

i don't quite understand why overlay is an issue, it's used by default for all tv cards, and that's certainly no different under linux. with a framebuffer you should be able to run tv on a p100 i'd guess... possibly even less as the video isn't going through the CPU at all.... i'd say use fbtv for a framebuffer viewer, based on xawtv
