turntable

I received a turntable (record player) for christmas. The Stanton T.90 USB turntable more specifically. Seems quite nice with lots of features. I am not old enough to have much experience with the technology so I have a question: When my amplifier is turned off I can still here the music coming from the needle. Mostly the higher frequency come through, but if you listen closely the music can be heard very clearly. Is this normal? hope this doesn't seem like a dumb question. I can understand why this would be happening but it seems awfully loud.

LOL Yeah that's normal. It's probably pretty quiet, but you could still hear it as the stylus vibrates.

As you're too young to have been around when vinyl was the only way to play recorded music I'll clue you in on one thing, make very sure to keep the stylus clean and protect it from physical damage. It's the weak link on a platter.

Yes sir. what you hear is the effects of an antiquated notion called "analog audio", ie: the raw sound of the stylus running through the record grooves and vibrating.

Yup. I just recieved my box set of Radioheads "In Rainbows" that included two CD's and two Vinyl LP's. A very good investment on a limited edition album.

... beware of dust !!!

and be easy on lifting the stylus/needle ... if the arm is balanced properly it should be easy to accidentally move and possibly scratch the album.

... hmm that reminds me ... I still have 120 albums to burn ... should take me to 2010 (a space oddity).

Hope your birthday is close cause once Radiohead sells out, they're gone, no more production and then it'll be double the price on eBay. I think the only thing they're releasing is the CD worldwide, basically what you could get from their site by downloading and naming your own price. Box set comes with second cd with songs not available anywhere else I believe.
