LOL FUNNY!

That's not really new or surprising. Most of the people never read the license. For real spooky stuff that might be around the corner read this http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/users/rja14/tcpa-faq.html

trickykid 07-01-2002 09:07 AM

This isn't Linux related so it doesn't belong in this forum. Try to post in the correct forums. Being moved to General Forum.

crashmeister 07-01-2002 10:39 AM

Trickykid - did you read what the M$ plans for Palladium will do to the GPL? If that stuff ever gets adapted on a wide basis it will be the end of GPL.Now i would think this is Linuxrelated.

trickykid 07-01-2002 11:15 AM

Ok, I'll rephrase then, its not a Linux technical question and doesn't belong in the Linux - General forum.. :)
Though it might have some impact on GPL and Linux, but its still directly related about MS so it belongs here in this forum.

It is quite challenging, MS makes every effort to shutdown GPL and keep the GPL abriviation (Gate Private License). But I believe the open sourse community is strong enough to show MS its place. Regarding the first article the author is ranting about personal computers and yada-yada-yada, I see the big foam behind it - it is not targeted to a regular home user (what do you believe BG wants your credit card numbers, so he can go to vacations and you pay? He still goes to vacations and YOU pay IF you ARE a WINDOWS USER who bought their OS) it is targeted to corporate field, I am saying the obvious things of course - getting corporate data of another company reduces competition to zero and builds even stronger monopoly.

One more thing:
I am using WMP with codeweavers crossover plugin, and I believe BG can kiss my arse for it, I ain't getting no security updates for it cause I ain't need one - that's a bit of New York attitude :D

Yeah, you are right. It's just strange that nobody seems to care about that stuff.Once you got one of those new and shiny CPU's in your box software that isn't certified won't work anymore. And if it gets changed is has to be certified again. That's the way it sounds like anyway.

Perhaps rodcl should have pointed out to one and all that although www.theregister.co.uk is obviously a mainly brit site, they do cover a hell of a lot of international stuff in what I consider to be a most amusing way (satirical/tongue in cheek/etc/etc). For those of you stateside who don't want a good laugh at we brits and the kind of crap dished out to us by british telecom (aka BT) as they are quite often the "butt of a joke" in the register, you can find a localised version which I believe has some sort of link with toms hardware, if my memory serves me correctly is at www.theregus.com - failing that I think that there is a link at the UK site.

I appreciate that it's questionable as to which forum it should be on, but as the reg seems to be pro linux when it gets a mention, it is definitely of interest to linux folk everywhere, even if only for the general IT interest.

Lets face it, most of the "headline" IT news is usually related to M$ in some way.

I like the last sentence. :D
