This should be illegal

This is truly a big development I think :)

vi0lat0r 03-29-2004 07:18 PM

I think I could use themes in KDE and make it look more like Windows XP than that...

mikshaw 03-29-2004 07:27 PM

eeewwww...ick. XP is so damn ugly...why would someone want to emulate it?
What should be illegal is bright blue interfaces...it's bad for your eyes.

SciYro 03-29-2004 07:44 PM

mhm, everything is illegal in the US, and i do mean it... even walking outside is illegal! , sometimes, still.......,,,, and if the US thinks its illegal, it trys to force other counrtys to make it illegal to.... how sad...

and yes ,,, who in there right mind would want a windows look alike?, but i don't think anyone can emulate a windows environment in linux (unless wine and xpde are programed to randomly crash....)

as to weather or not MS will sue........ deepened if xpde threatens there money :), which it wont, theres much better desktops out there (kde, gnome, *box, enlightenment.... i dare not mention them all, it would just be to much remembering trying to do that)

Not to be the devil's advocate here, but you can install a hacked DLL into XP that will allow you to run unsigned themes. They got some pretty nice ones out there.

mrcheeks 03-29-2004 07:59 PM

you re d*** right, funny ***holes

megaspaz 03-29-2004 08:13 PM

out of curiosty, i did install it. i wasn't impressed. it was more of a window manager than a desktop environment. pretty much a waste of hard drive space. but i don't want to insult the developers who thought that this was a good idea....

Pres 03-30-2004 03:53 AM

What better way to slip under the radar in a windows only shop ? For this, xpde would rock.

JaseP 03-30-2004 12:20 PM

A theme on KDE could do this in a snap... in fact, I think there are a few...

http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=1499

... for example.

Squall 03-30-2004 08:33 PM

Oh, G-d. That made me vomit. There's only a couple things that could be that sinister: http://themes.mozdev.org/themes/ie.html and Redmond Linux.

GoinEasy9 03-30-2004 09:25 PM

Geeesh....now that i'm micro$oft free...why would i want to make my Linux box look like XPee

Crashed_Again 03-31-2004 04:03 AM

Actually, I don't think the XP desktop environment is bad looking. Its guilt by association really. If you lived in a certain city, and everyday you got beaten on the head with hot dogs then when you move to another city the last thing you want to see is another hot dog. Its like that with XPs desktop.

Lleb_KCir 03-31-2004 10:28 AM

even on my XP systems i strip them down and get rid of all the junk GUI tha comes with them.

sadly that makes them look like 2k, but its better then the cartoonish look of XP IMHO.

The good thing about this theme/DE is it might help new users make the move from windows to linux.
