I am afraid I do not get the point of posting a link that is almost two years old---especially when you do not even explain how it relates to your thread title.

What exactly is your point?

What is an upload box?

Also, FF2 is much slower than FF3.

It makes file uploads a pain in the a$$.
It just was the final straw today after battling a bug in virtualbox for over an hour.

I didn't even know Firefox had a built-in way to upload files, I thought it just downloaded them.

Gotta admit, it annoyed me too. I moved to Fx 3 way back, so I'd kind of forgotten about it.

(Almost) All web browsers can upload files.

The Upload box in a standard HTML form. I'll admit, what with all Ajax and whatnot they're becoming less common. But try using the Attach Files functionality on this very forum and you'll see what we mean.

I've attached a file to a post more than 7 times in the last few days, and I didn't find any problems. I'll pay more attention next time and look for problems.

Try to type the file name and path in manually without browsing.
GUI windows are always slow to startup so its irratating.

You mean you don't like the file chooser that comes up, for example, when you click "browse" to attach a file in LQ?

I thought that that's the standard GTK+ file chooser and has nothing to do with Firefox.

And I do agree that I hate the GTK+ file chooser.

I'm not sure if it's to do with the file chooser. Rather, the problem is you can't just type or copy-and-paste the file's location into the text box. You could in fx2. Very useful in some situations; for example if it's multiple uploads with very similar filenames.

I still don't get what window you are talking about. I posted a screenshot of what I see when I upload attachments:

The LQ Attachments window. Do you see the greyed-out box to the left of the Browse... button? In firefox 2 that was a real textbox, that allowed you to type in a file location, for example "/home/user/docs/pictures/pizza.jpg", without ever having to open the file chooser at all. In firefox 3 the moment you click it the chooser pops up.

Are you sure that that's a problem with Firefox 3.*, not that that is the way LQ intended it?
