The Scandals of the Week!!

I think that " President Trump " is going to have to deal with a scandal a week during his term in office!! Whether the scandals are true or not is not going to really matter!!

This weeks entry:http://www.nydailynews.com/news/poli...icle-1.2943969

Just as whether they were true or not didn't matter during Obama's presidency.

Aren't there political sites to post this kind of stuff? I get enough of it in the media, Facebook and other sites and really don't come to LINUX questions for it.

It is certainly apparent that "the Press" does not like the thought of a President who "tweets" . . .

If he doesn't speak in the conventional way through the conventional press channels, they can't lead him around by the nose as they are accustomed to doing.

This promises to be the first Chief Executive who knows how to use "social media."

I think MensaWater has a point. Perhaps we should treat Trump like we treat religion: have just one thread on him so that people who have had enough of the subject can ignore that thread.

On the contrary; you now have a president who doesn't know how to use social media. As Mark Twain said, better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool that open it and remove all doubt.

And I'm with Hazel: let's have a US politics thread and keep the stuff out of the way of the rest of us. There are people all all the world on this forum and few of them are enthralled with the topic as you are.

cynwulf 01-12-2017 10:46 AM

We really need to get all the complaining about US politics threads into one specific thread.

I'm no Trump supporter – never would have dreamed of voting for either of 'em – but ... "this guy is different." Different from any and every President that the country has ever had in its brief history. I think that, by his very presence in the Office, he is going to change the public's perception of the Office and of the role of the Executive Branch in general. Being someone who was never "voted for" before in his entire life, he is also going to run against the grain of an entire District (of Columbia) which is steeped in such things and which has always been so ... until now.

So, is he really an "idiot," or a "buffoon" or anything else? I'm not persuaded. I've come to think that he is both shrewd, and very serious. Other Heads of State see it, too. (Not just Russians ...) People (such as Sen. McCain) who have been holed-up in public office for decades feel very threatened by it.

The American people did the one thing that "the established political order" never dreamed that they would actually do. But, they did it on purpose. Hillary Clinton lost the election decisively, and when she tried to beg the Electoral College for indulgence, they handed her back a mighty insult. (And, the Constitution clearly says that they could have "fixed a problem" if they saw one. Quite obviously, they did not.)

After picking myself up off the floor at the realization of what the American people actually did, I find myself intensely curious ... and, willing to wait and see. Maybe, "he won't last a month." Maybe, "he will change everything by the end of his second term."

I'm not looking to the American political press for predictions.

Although Donald Trump will only be the president of one country; what he, and those around him, end up doing is going to effect a lot of people the world over!

I agree that a thread regarding US politics should be created. I also wonder whether this type of discussion could look bad for people from anywhere else. Perhaps I'm being patronising here but in the UK we only, slightly, "get it" -- to he rest of the world what is this?

It would be even funnier if it weren't true. At this point the usual tactics of the elites are failing and more and more people are waking up to the truth - so since the populace will be harder and harder to be lulled into complacency, it is likely that more drastic and draconian measures will be deployed at some point in the future.

So Trump doesn't take a Presidential Salary, and practically resigns from his businesses.

Although I did not vote for him, this is something I like although the naivete in me still hopes we can repair our relations with Russia - I dunno so far this is one wild roller coaster ride, and I am strapped in though.

Jeebizz 01-12-2017 03:16 PM

I think now both establishment Republican and Democrats will be working together as well along with the CIA, to make Trump's life as miserable as possible.

So according to this guy anyways, the whole 'pissgate' story is from a 4chan troll - then again I wouldn't be surprised because if CNN and others ran with the story, they deserve the humiliation.
