This too by the way. Which I'm sure will eventually happen a'la merging of threads.

The question is unsolvable as Atheists and Christians are like oil and water. :-)

I think a slight name change would be in order for the Non-Nix General forum to General(Non-atheists posters not welcome.)

Sad that just a few unhappy individuals dictate policy.

Yes. The Non-Nix General doesn't have any further categories outside of peoples non-free minds.

I'm not an atheist, but nice of you to conclude something like that based on the plain and simple fact that someone doesn't appreciate the equivalent of "projected racism", because that's what pious people do, "blah-blah-blah-god, blah-blah-blah-jesus" ... "Oh, you don't want to hear what I have to say?" "Atheist!!!" "shame finger!"

I simply think that discussions along this topic belong here ... are expected and welcomed here ... but generally (ahem ...) don't need to clutter-up "General."

I believe in an outside entity (I'm not keen on the name "God" as it thereby defines that entity in terms of all the pretty crappy interpretations so far produced by Earth religions), but I am not a Christian. Oh if everything were so black and white as in the minds of the believers.

So what am I like? Treacle?

sundialsvcs I think we can tolerate a single misplaced prayer; prayer to some perhaps take a manner of expressing out personal opinion. But to turn this thread into a prayer-meeting I think that is a sure out-of-place.

Yes, what about Andy to create a thread in General about Prayers? Well that would be nice probably.

My Chopper Come
It Shall Be Done
On Earth as it is on Pavement
Give us this day our wind in the face and love of life.
As it be in barrios and poor communities.
And lead us not into bigoted white religious zealot communities with racist and sexist agendas.
Light em up if you got them.
Amen.

I can hardly agree to that. Who is oil and who is water in this thread? I suppose that the simple denomination called humanity is enough to mingle every human person into the fold of Men. It is perceptible from the post who is atheist and who is christian yet it is enjoyable to meet varied opinions from other intellectuals, rather than cause one's opinion to get divided himself from others. The tendency to divide from other faith or no-faith was the cause of many useless wars in the past. If one be christian why not employ his stock of christian virtues to be at peace and sufferance with the non-christian? And if one be atheist why not apply his natural code of ethics and human instinct of gregarious co-existence with other properties of the same specie?

Oil for cooking. Water for drinking. But every man needs both each day.
Man rather is an emulsifier for oil and water to become unified compound.

Just an simpleton's opinion.

I'm not sure I have read every single post on all of 400+ pages but it's very close and I haven't witnessed bad treatment of "non-atheist posters" with the single possible exception of OregonJim who occasionally asked for it with his several sanctimonious, condescending rants and personal attacks and many of those were leveled at believers!

Additionally, the only "dictating of policy" was done once by a single mod who admonished both OregonJim and I, threatening each of us with a week's suspension. If anyone bothers to look back at what led up to that I truly don't see how moderation could possibly have been more balanced. OregonJim chose to bail apparently because he got caught inserting his own conclusions in a quote implying it was part of the article when in fact it was a complete fabrication. He couldn't stand the heat he generated so he got out of the kitchen voluntarily. It is by no means, policy.

I think that "that little wrinkle" is now a piece of the past, best to be left there, and that in the name of civility we should not particularly "name names" here. (In other words, "not here.") We're discussing a delicate topic that is heartfelt by all (wo)men, and we've been successfully doing so for over four hundred pages. We should tiptoe ... not singling out any person for any reason.

Let's talk about: "faith and religion." Not the individuals who express anything here. The subject is not, directly at least, "people." We can cut the subject to ribbons if we so choose. ("Oops! Fire from Heaven! Coming in at ten o'dfa;sf jdkfda@#%jkf@$!j;fksfaj!!" ) But, not the people. Never the people.
