The different places you see Linux

I'm convinced there's a lot more "computers" (for lack of a better word) out there running linux than I had first thought.

For example I was at a restaurant the other day and got to see one of those touch screen game TV's (I wish I could remeber what they're called, they're found in a lot of bars) reboot. Low and behold there was our friendly little penguin sitting at the top left corner.

Then just yesterday I was flying Delta Song for vacation. The plane has little TV's on the back of every seat which you can watch satalite TV, rent movies, play trivia and games multiplayer style with others on the flight and more. The plane lost power temporarily while sitting at the terminal and when the TV's came back on there was tux sitting happily on top of those familiar boot up messages.

One thing I find interesting is that these machines were doing pretty unconventional things that a normal desktop computer would never really do such as swiping credit cards and using money slots.

What are some other applications of linux you've seen or know of?

Edit: Opps meant to put this in general, thanks trickykid

My Netgear DG834 ADSL router runs a 2.4 Linux kernel. I think Linux is quite common on these sorts of network appliances.

I've also heard of digital picture frames (that look like normal picture frames, but which have LCD screens in them) which run Linux too.

I have never seen an other Linux box in the "open". Only at my university and some friends. I have seen a lot of BSOD's in public, like in our train stations.

Didn't Moscow and a few other Russian cities change over their McDonald cash registers to Linux?
I also see Linux in a lot of "kiosk" type operations, like the instore search page and that sorta thing.

I work for a small public library and about a year and a half ago we purchased a self-checkout kiosk. When it arrived I was pleasantly surprised to find that it runs on Mandrake Linux!

The kiosk runs 24/7 and, to the best of my knowledge, the only times it has ever had to be rebooted were after power failures and once to replace a defective barcode reader

Aside from that, all of our Online Catalog kiosks run Red Hat 9 and we have one CentOS 4 server.

In Australia, funnily enough all the new ones run on Windows 98...

once owned an adsl modem which uses a kind of linux os , managed to convert it into a sharing router , i even stored some personal files in their partition

that was the time when i was interested in installing linux in XBox game machine which got a kind of win2000(if i'm not wrong) , but never managed to own a XBox , now that router also destroyed and gone ....

now i'm kind of interested in programming boards , been to some sites , it's kind of difficult for me , but still no hurry for me , slowly one thing at a time ...
