The BSoD lives

There seems to be a lot of flaming for anyone that seems to say that Windows is unstable and suffers from the Blue Screen of Death, especially from newer windows users. The reason is because Windows XP doesn't seem to ever Blue Screen. Well for those "XP is stable and never blue screens anymore" I have a correction. I BLUE SCREENED!!! I was starting up Half-Life 2 and got the Blue Screen.

Micorsoft is tricky, when a Blue screen occurs it just reboots and it did in this case but there it was for half a second, the infamous, dangerous and deadly Blue Screen of Death. For those that thought it was gone, it's not, it's just hidden very well.

Did you manage to take a screenshot?... Duh! Nevermind :p

Actually, I BSOD'd so much that I just wiped the partition and turned it into a NFS drive. Stupid XP.

Cool

It isn't just you either...

Blue Screen of Death - Hah!!!

any Linux geek can configure their
Linux screen of death
to be any colour they like
with dancing penguins as well !!
so there,

Just gotta figure out how to trigger
the Linux screen of death
maybe
x-kill KDE or something
oh well
my 2 cents

Why don't Microsoft randomize the colour? So that we'd have

Red screen of death
Green screen of death
Cyan screen of death
Purple screen of death

and so on :D

It would stop all this negative criticism of Microsoft because different people cannot agree on what constitutes a BSoD and also add some more excitement and drama to the proceedings. I for one, would find it more interesting to know what colour the next screen of death will be in. :p

Edit: whoops floppy! You got in ahead of me by a few microseconds :)

I once had a program for Windows 98 that changed the color of the BSoD. Mine was the RTGSoD (Red Text, Green Screen of Death). The only problem was that I had to get rid of it because windows update wouldn't work with it.

Ahh, the dreaded "Christmas Screen of Death", feared by the color-blind across the globe :D

I watched that on TechTV/G4. Connan was ripping on Gates pretty hard. It was funny. "Nine people just got fired didn't they?"

Also, I didn't realize how old Bill Gates was. WOW!

I've never personally BSoD'd but it would be kind of cool if MS would randomize the color, except that when the comp. BSoD's I'm sure most people don't care about the color of the screen.

WinXP + Valve Game + Steam is a difficult combo for any system. Can't figure out which of those is buggier...

I think it's steam. Steam has always been buggy. The concept is good, having a central location for all your software, but the execution has been horrible.

Mega Man X 01-08-2005 08:29 PM

I so agree with you. I have had all kind of problems with Steam you may think of, from random crashes, with problems to download games/patches/mods and even with the CD-Key. The guys were nice though, fixing my CD-Key issue, so I can't say anything bad about the support, but the program itself :)

Actually I never get the BSOD or any errors in XP, It runs flawlessly, probably cuz I dont have anything running except 8 processes, no printer or scanner and always run disk cleanup and adaware. I dont use Email or browse the internet on it. The only time I did get the BSOD is when I tried to update my Video drivers but that was because I didnt uninstall the previous ones. :D

Well, I guess you can protect your system that way, but it seems kinda boring

stabile007 01-10-2005 07:40 AM

Yeah I never had my PC BSoD or restart (where it actually BSoD and quickly reboots without showing you) Well I did once but I had a bad stick of memory so i had to get it replaced but after that I never had a crash in Windows Xp or Windows 2000. Nor have I had a complete linux failure but I have gotten KDE to crash quite often and Firefox as well.
