You can't force Linux on someone that wants to bed Microsoft
Yes you can !!! If the system is mission critical (space shuttle navigation system, embedded sensors on comercial jet engines, military targeting systems etc.)
Any project manager that uses M$ products in these areas of technology is risking peoples lives.
Due to financial hardships at the moment, I've had to switch my tower system to Windows XP. The current internet access I have only works with Win & Intel Macs.
Distribution: Slackware (mainly) and then a lot of others...

Hi all,
I do not want to start a flamewar here but.... this thread was started in 2006!!!!!
We have *proved* that linux is better.... can we move on with our lives please.... can we gang up and beat down on someone else apart from winduhs??
Funny, Kenny used to be on here all the time, but since he's been asked a few difficult questions he's been gone for two whole days!
Or has he...?
Although his profile says:
Quote:
Last Activity: 08-11-10 23:13
more often than not when I take a look at the new posts there's this guy, called I_HATE_M$, lurking in the thread.
I'm thinking that perhaps it's a sock-puppet of Kenny's since the user has no posts and registered on the 9th, right after Kenny "vanished".
Question should be:
UNIX is better than (MS)WINDOWS?
Unix has windows too lest we forget.
The space program is already using redhat linux and they have used unix for years. My brother worked at jsc as a programmer.
Never force any os upon anyone. Sell the sizzle/aroma and not the steak.
1. Find out what the future linux user needs and os are.
2. Find out what in linux will surpass what the future linux user has or wants. (aka do your homework.)
3. Present the facts. (aka dazzle the future linux user.) The facts in most cases, will sell linux itself. No need to push, they will beg you for it.
The difference between rape and rapture is a little salesmanship.
I just got into work and took over from a colleague. He logged out and I attempted to log in. (Usual corporate suspect, XP - sp2.) Well, once I got a running desktop, none of my profile info had been loaded. One wasted 45 minutes and a reboot later and I finally got to what passes for a normal desktop in Windoze land. How on earth can anyone think that having to reboot just to enable one user to log out and another to log in is acceptable or normal???
Not saying this was the issue without being there to check it out but, I have seen that happen on a network where the profiles are kept on a server rather than the local machine. The reboot could have re-established connection to the server. (The server or a net connection could have been temporarily down or for a host of other reasons.) They kept the profiles on the server where I used to work. If the profiles were local, then that is another choice of possibilities like not enough ram or a bloated uncleaned registry so that memory was freed up at the reboot. Lots of gotchas with Messy Windoze.
Funny how MS Windows users brag about how much gigabytes of ram they have to have. I am still running with only half a gig on my desktop. I am thinking of going into movie editing which actually require more memory or more swap. I used to run my old laptop on just 96 meg. There are programmers who need a reality check. That is even true with with some of the new programmers into linux.
He's still lurking ^_^
Shortly after my last post, "I_HATE_M$" disabled almost all publicly viewable info on the account profile and disabled comments, so I'm pretty sure it's him.
