The all new Linux vs Linux supermega ultra nerdy geek thread.
Is your distro better than mine?
I don't think so.
Actually, it doesn't matter to me.
I'm a bit of curious as to why after a while, the members of the Linux community still do the antiwindows and "my distro is better than yours" tiffs.
I'm a bit of curious as to why after a while, the members of the Linux community still do the ... "my distro is better than yours" tiffs.
Because friendly competition is like sport - healthy and fun.

Because when the CEO of one of the largest software corporations in the world (known for its ethically dubious practices) describes Linux as "a cancer", there is a need to inject some reality into the debate.
At least that's what this little billy goat gruff thinks.

Prove by actions with those around you.
I offer people the option of installing Linux/GNU or a BSD system as a backup until they can get the system working.
Corporations are into making money and will use the Machiavellian axiom of "Do what's necessary and change when you need" to continue business.
My distro brings all the girls to the yard and they're like it's better than yours dayum right it's better than yours I can teach you but I have to charge.
This reminds me of a Movie called "Fearless", with Jet Li.
Its action takes place in the begining of 20th century, and a Japanese sponsor wants to arrange for a Fight between a top Wu Shu fighter ( Jet Li ) and a Japanese Bujutsu Fighter.
When they acknowledge eachother before the fight takes place, the Japanese contendor proposes they should fight to establish which Martial Art is the best, the Chinese, or the Japanese. ( in the spirit of "Which System is the best", of Cold War Period Olympic Games... )
To this proposition, Jet Li simply answers that there is no such thing as a "Better Martial Art"... there is simply a better skilled fighter.
I Guess that with Linux Distros it ammounts to the same...
There is no Better Distro IMHO, I use Slackware because I feel comfortable with it, and as a tool I use to solve some problems, i find them easier to solve with Slackware than with Gentoo, or Red Hat...
( or Windows ...)
Doesn't mean that Slackware is better than Gentoo, or Red Hat, or *BSD or AIX...
Simply means that, for me, Slackware "is better" in the sense that "I know my way around" with it, and I can do things ( I am skilled enough ) that I would not be able to do with BLFS, or Crux...
There are also 10 kinds of people who find that gag still funny.....
Actually, following on from the discussion between BrianL and Smeezekitty, it's not a binary answer I'm afraid. There are many reasons to prefer one distro over another and the majority of the reasons are purely subjective. As a seasoned distro-hopper, you can trust me on this one.
Yes, indeedy. More or less subjective. Like tastes in books, films, women, food, etc. I don't think I've ever said Slackware is the best distro (except jokingly), only that I personally prefer it to others I've tried. Use whichever suits you, and **** whatever anybody else says about it.
